Popular X-Men Member & Marvel Heroes Die Saving Wolverine

The recent Age of Revelation event has been devastating for Marvel heroes, with many losing their lives. Wolverine, under mind control, was responsible for many of these deaths as the main assassin. While Logan has now been freed from this control in time for the event’s climax, it came at a tragic cost, including the loss of another popular X-Men member.

The third issue of The Last Wolverine brings a turning point for Logan. While the series is titled after him, the story actually follows Leonard Two Bears, a young First Nations man who Logan is guiding. The miniseries is written by Saladin Ahmed and illustrated by Edgar Salazar.

Leonard receives guidance to help him control his anger, stemming from a past infection with the Wendigo Curse that caused violent impulses. In a possible future, he’s overcome this rage, becoming a hero and adopting the name formerly used by Logan.

Leonard is approached by Vindicator, who leads Alpha Flight and is married to Logan in this future. She claims to have a way to save Logan and enlists Leonard and Nightcrawler’s help. However, her plan actually involves killing Logan with a magical blade called the Muramasa, which can stop mutants from healing. Now, Kurt and Leonard find themselves in a desperate race against time to stop what feels like a dangerous marital fight.

What heroes die to save Wolverine?

Even though Vindicator believed her husband was gone, she managed to snap Wolverine out of his trance. By using her unique scent and severing his left arm, she disrupted the control Revelation had over him. Unfortunately, their victory was short-lived, as Revelation’s other followers had been watching the entire fight.

It absolutely broke my heart watching Vindicator stay behind to buy us time, giving the rest of us a chance to get the injured Logan to safety. Thankfully, Nightcrawler managed to teleport us away, but it came at a terrible cost. You see, the last two decades hadn’t been easy on Kurt. He’d developed a heart condition, and after years of not using his powers, the strain of teleporting us all proved too much. He had a heart attack right after that last jump. It was devastating, honestly.

Desperate to save his teacher, Leonard unleashes a powerful, hidden force. This chaos allows the original Wolverine to escape when Revelation’s followers finally corner them. The story concludes with Logan grieving the loss of his wife, friend, and student, and vowing to avenge everyone Revelation has killed.

The Last Wolverine #3 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
