The latest trailer for the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC reveals a big change: the game is removing the level 100 cap. This means players can now level up even further, leading to more challenging Pokémon battles than ever before.
As a big Pokémon fan, I’ve learned that leveling up isn’t everything when it comes to battling, especially if you’re serious about competitive play. What really matters is a Pokémon’s stats, what it’s strong and weak against, and what moves it knows. It also depends on how a Pokémon works with the special battle features of each game – things like Mega Evolution or Dynamaxing. And here’s a neat trick: in competitive battles, everyone’s Pokémon are automatically set to level 50, so grinding beyond that is usually just for learning new moves!
Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC Is Breaking The Level Limi
A new trailer for the Mega Dimension downloadable content for Pokémon is now available on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. It announces the DLC will launch on December 10, 2025, and features a journey to a different, more challenging version of Lumiose City filled with powerful Pokémon.
The new trailer reveals that Wild Pokémon in Lumiose City can reach levels over 100, something never seen before in a Pokémon game. Surprisingly, players’ Pokémon can also reach these high levels, going beyond the limitations of the original Pokémon Red & Blue games. While some might criticize the change, it’s a significant departure from tradition.
Increasing Pokémon’s Level Cap Could Have A Huge Impact On Competitive Play
For years, starting with the original Pokémon Red & Blue games, Pokémon could only reach level 100. The new Mega Dimension downloadable content suggests this limit might be raised, but we don’t know exactly how high it will go yet. It could be as low as 200, or potentially all the way up to 999.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A features a special way to level up Pokémon, and this might stay unique to the ‘Legends’ series. But if this system appears in the main Pokémon games, it would signal significant changes, particularly for competitive battling.
Raising the level limit could lead to Pokémon having more moves, evolving at higher levels, and generally becoming stronger in competitive battles. This change is significant, and depending on how much it impacts the game, it could fundamentally alter how Pokémon is played.
