Pitt Star Dishes On Potential Mateo-Javadi Romance

Two stars of The Pitt are both helping patients and now quelling fans’ curiosity.

HBO’s The Pitt boasts a complex cast of characters, including Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), who serves as the show’s emotional core, Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) as he returns from rehab, and dedicated nurses like Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa). Lately, however, medical student Victoria Javadi (Shabana Azeez) and experienced ER nurse Mateo Diaz (Jalen Thomas Brooks) have become central figures in the show’s storylines.

Speaking with Grant Hermanns from ScreenRant, show creator Brooks confirmed that Mateo and Javadi’s characters would “definitely have hung out” between seasons, addressing fan speculation about a possible romantic connection.

Jalen Thomas Brooks believes the people he’s talking about have gone on a date – they’ve gotten coffee together – and he thinks both of them are interested in each other.

Brooks hinted that Mateo knows the fourth-year medical student well, and their relationship might become stronger as the season goes on. This has excited many fans who are hoping they’ll become a couple, and they’re closely watching for any signs that a romance is developing.

Rumors of a romance began when Mateo and Javadi first connected, with both showing an immediate attraction to each other. Mateo has always avoided dating colleagues, preferring to keep things professional, but their strong connection suggests he might be willing to make an exception for Javadi.

Brooks followed up on their connection saying:

We’ve worked together for almost a year now, so there’s definitely a mutual awareness between Mateo and her. He’s not dismissing the possibility of something more just because they work together. It seems like he recognizes her interest and is open to the idea of a relationship. I don’t think it’s just a friendly connection; they could definitely develop feelings for each other.

According to Brooks, Mateo and Javadi’s connection isn’t a typical romance, but a deep bond that’s developed gradually while working together at the hospital. He describes it as something still unfolding, not quite platonic, but not fully defined either, which allows their relationship to continue evolving.

Now that season 2 of The Pitt is underway, discussions are focusing on the potential for significant character growth, especially for Dr. Robby and other key figures. Because their futures are uncertain, the developing relationship is proving to be a captivating plotline for viewers.

The Pitt airs Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO Max.
