Peter Krause is back on TV for NBC’s Line of Fire.
As a longtime TV watcher, I was really surprised to see Peter Krause absent from regular television for the 2025-2026 season. He was one of the original stars of 9-1-1 on Fox, and continued playing Bobby Nash when the show moved to ABC. So, it was a huge shock – and honestly, a lot of fans were upset – when his character was suddenly killed off. He was such a key part of the show, it felt like a really strange creative decision.
Following the events of season 9 of 9-1-1, which focused on the impact of Bobby’s death, Peter Krause has landed a new role. He’ll be starring in Line of Fire, a police drama for NBC, which is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2026. The show centers around a family of law enforcement professionals – working for agencies like the FBI and Secret Service – who must put aside their personal issues to solve challenging cases linked to a dangerous conspiracy.
With NBC announcing its plans for the 2026-2027 television season, they’ve also given us a first look at Line of Fire, marking actor Billy Krause’s return to network television. Krause will play Mike Hollingsworth, the head of the family featured in the show. While details about the plot are still limited, it centers around characters who are willing to bend the rules to ensure justice prevails. See some preview images below.
While the reboot of The Rockford Files has been delayed until 2027, Line of Fire is set to premiere this fall on NBC. It will air on Mondays from 10 to 11 PM Eastern Time, replacing the last program of the night. This puts Line of Fire in direct competition with Harlan Coben’s Final Twist on CBS. If ABC’s schedule stays the same, Line of Fire will also compete with Monday Night Football in the fall and season nine of The Rookie in the winter.
Both 9-1-1 and Line of Fire focus on the importance of family, but Line of Fire uniquely features an actual family at its core. It’s interesting to compare and contrast the characters of Mike and Bobby. Although flawed, Bobby was a much-loved captain by his team and viewers, making his death hard to accept. With Krause now committed to this new show on NBC, a return for Bobby seems impossible. The demands of a traditional TV schedule would even make a brief appearance unlikely.
It’ll definitely be strange seeing Robert Krause on television in a new role, since most people remember him as Bobby. Though he’s played other great characters, his part on 9-1-1 was likely his most well-known. Let’s hope his new show, Line of Fire on NBC, is just as good, or even better.
