Former cast member Pete Davidson came back to “Saturday Night Live” on November 8th after being on the show for eight years. He immediately joked about his previous boss during his appearance on the “Weekend Update” segment.
During the interview, Pete Davidson discussed the problems with his purchase of an old Staten Island Ferry boat with Colin Jost, calling it a “fiasco.” He explained he took a stand-up comedy gig in Saudi Arabia because the ferry was costing him millions of dollars. Davidson also expressed gratitude to SNL creator Lorne Michaels for always being supportive and encouraging him to persevere.
During his recent appearance on the show, Pete Davidson playfully suggested that Lorne Michaels’ biggest lesson is to never give up, even when it seems like time for someone new – like Tina Fey – to take the reins, according to TVLine. Fey was a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live from 1997 to 2021. She also starred in the sitcom 30 Rock, which ran from 2006 to 2013, and has received 10 Primetime Emmy Awards throughout her career.
Earlier this year, there was talk that Tina Fey might take over for Lorne Michaels at Saturday Night Live. Fey responded warmly, saying it was kind of Michaels to suggest it and that she cares for him a lot. However, she doesn’t believe Michaels should retire. She thinks he’s one of a kind, with a special talent for finding and nurturing performers, and one of the few people left in the entertainment industry who truly understands how everything works.
Fey’s The Four Seasons Will Return
Tina Fey is currently appearing in and co-created the Netflix series The Four Seasons. The show has been well-received, earning a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and will return for a second season next year. It also stars Will Forte, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, along with Colman Domingo and Kerry Kenney. The Four Seasons follows three couples who have been friends for years, and how their lives are disrupted when one of the couples decides to split up.
During a past interview, the discussion touched on Season 2, particularly the impact of a shocking plot twist from the end of Season 1 where Nick (played by Steve Carell) died in a car accident. Carell’s character had recently separated from Anne (played by Kenney), whom he was previously married to, and was now in a relationship with Ginny (Erika Henningsen), who was much younger than him.
Tina Fey shared that she and her writing team have started working on Season 2. She mentioned it’s been a positive experience, especially since they’re the same team as last season, allowing them to connect and draw inspiration not only from the show’s first season but also from their personal lives. A significant portion of Season 1, while inspired by the original 1981 film The Four Seasons (starring Alan Alda and Carol Burnett), was also rooted in the writers’ own experiences. Fey explained that they’re essentially beginning the creative process anew for Season 2.
Saturday Night Live will be back with another new episode on Nov. 15.
