For anyone well-versed in Saturday Night Live (SNL), it’s no secret that Pete Davidson is a hilarious figure. However, since he’s left the sketch comedy series behind, he’s ventured into various film roles that have underscored his versatility within comedy and beyond. As he promotes his 2025 movie, The Home, Davidson discussed why stand-up comedy still makes acting feel mortifying to him – a sentiment I can relate to completely.
In contrast to his roles in movies like “The King of Staten Island” and “Meet Cute”, Pete Davidson’s new film, titled “The Home“, will mark a significant change. This is due to the fact that “The Home” is a horror movie. In this chilling horror production, Davidson will portray a troubled man who accepts a job at a retirement home, but soon uncovers a dark and sinister plot within the facility. As he promotes his upcoming horror film to ET, the “Bupkis” actor discusses his reasons for avoiding rehearsals and shares what makes acting such an uncomfortable experience for him.
It seems acting is quite awkward for me since I’m more accustomed to stand-up comedy. The absurdity of it makes me laugh as I attempt to maintain the act multiple times, usually just two or three, and you can understand why.
I get Pete Davidson’s perspective. Acting out intense or scared scenes for a movie sometimes feels forced or even ridiculous, especially when humor is your defining trait. It can be tough to switch off that comedic side. Add to that the fact that having an entire film crew capturing you in emotional turmoil could understandably make anyone feel self-conscious.
It’s clear that Pete Davidson wasn’t joking when he filmed a scene involving a device keeping his eye open. Indeed, it seems no digital effects were used during that intense scene. Given this, I have to admit that I give the NYC native a great deal of respect because in my opinion, I would be quick to flee under similar circumstances.
Despite Pete Davidson’s character facing tough times in “The Home,” his comedic side certainly made an appearance during filming. In fact, the skilled actor shared that he injected plenty of laughter onto the set, explaining it this way: “I managed to bring some humor to the production.
And I would add comedy takes.
It’s understandable that he would do so, and it’s not unexpected given that Pete Davidson was known for improvising the most jokes among The Suicide Squad cast. If humor can make the set of The Home a more comfortable place for everyone, then it seems fitting.
In a chilling horror film like “The Home”, humor isn’t usually the intended tone. However, by choosing a comedic actor as the main character, it hints that the story might also offer some comic relief.
There is a very funny cut of The Home.
I’m eagerly anticipating that the “humorous clip” will become available online or as an extra on the DVD. With Pete Davidson chuckling throughout numerous takes, you can only imagine the amount of amusing outtakes there must be!
