A fresh chapter is starting. After the popular conclusion of the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man story, the creators have given us a first glimpse of the new series, and announced that a key character will be played by a different actor – again.
The world of Peaky Blinders will continue with a new series on Netflix, following the recent film conclusion. This sequel is set ten years after the events of The Immortal Man. Netflix has released a first-look image revealing that actor Stephen Graham will play Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s illegitimate son. The character was previously portrayed by Conrad Khan in the series and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

Jamie Bell’s portrayal of Duke Shelby is strikingly similar to his father’s character, commanding attention with a cool and somewhat imposing presence. Notably, he doesn’t wear the flat cap – or baker boy cap – that’s become a signature look for the Birmingham gang. Instead, Bell sports a fedora, a hat historically associated with gangsters from a different time.
The original Peaky Blinders series covered the period from the 1920s to the early 1950s, and the upcoming sequel will be set in the later years of that timeframe. Netflix has announced the new series will begin a decade after the end of World War II, focusing on the fierce competition to rebuild Birmingham. The city will be portrayed as a place of both incredible opportunity and extreme danger, with Duke Shelby (played by Jamie Bell) at the center – now older, smarter, more driven, and even more threatening. The series creator, Steven Knight, also shared his praise for Bell and the rest of the cast.
We’re excited to announce the next chapter of Peaky Blinders, set in Birmingham after the war, in the early 1950s. We’re very pleased to have Jamie Bell joining the cast as Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s eldest son, and Charlie Heaton in a leading role. Expect more cast announcements soon – Peaky Blinders is back in action!
The story returns to Birmingham, focusing on the city’s recovery after the bombing raids of World War II. This time, a new generation of the Shelby family is in charge, and it promises to be a dramatic and exciting journey.
As previously hinted by Knight, Jamie Bell – known for his work in films like All of Us Strangers and Rocket Man – will star alongside Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things, Industry), Jessica Brown Findlay (Harlots, Downton Abbey), Lashana Lynch (The Day of The Jackal, No Time to Die), and Lucy Karczewski (Stereophonic).
Duke is back for two more seasons of Peaky Blinders, following a personal loss. He’ll be returning to Birmingham as the head of the Shelby family, now known as “Rom baro.” We don’t have a release date yet.
