Peaky Blinders Creator Confirms Release Update for Upcoming Sequel Film

The popular BBC crime drama, starring Cillian Murphy, is returning to television. A movie sequel to the series, called The Immortal Man, was announced in December 2023, and fans are eager for more information about the show’s characters and their return to the screen.

Following months of filming and casting news, the creator of the series, Steven Knight, has shared exciting updates. He confirmed the film will be released in theaters and described the initial cut as remarkably impressive.

Steven Knight Speaks About the Peaky Blinders Movie

Steven Knight believes the upcoming film, The Immortal Man, will be very popular with Peaky Blinders fans. He recently told The Playlist while discussing his series A Thousand Blows what viewers can anticipate from the Peaky Blinders finale.

You know, this show really spread by word of mouth – it wasn’t heavily advertised, but people discovered it and started sharing it with each other. What’s struck me is how passionate the fanbase is, and I truly believe it deserves to be experienced together. All the buzz has been online, which is great, but I’m really hoping it gets a cinema release. I want people to be able to share that collective energy, to actually be together while watching it – that’s how it was meant to be seen.

Regarding the movie, Knight didn’t share many plot details but expressed confidence in its success thanks to the incredible British cast – including Barry Keoghan, Rebecca Ferguson, and Stephen Graham. He believes this talented group has the potential for complex character development, similar to Cillian Murphy’s Thomas Shelby, and he’s already thinking about continuing the story with future installments.

He explained that they have many more stories to share and can continue telling them as long as people are interested and he has new ideas. He essentially said they’ll keep going as long as there’s an audience and he has stories to tell.

What to Expect From Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (and How to Watch It)

Following hopeful statements from creator Steven Knight last year, we now have a clearer picture of the upcoming Peaky Blinders film. It’s been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, along with familiar faces like Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg, Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, and others. Joining them will be Rebecca Ferguson as a new character named Kaulo and Barry Keoghan, playing an older version of Erasmus “The Schnoz” Shelby.

I’m so excited for this new movie! It’s hitting theaters for just a short time, starting March 6th, but it won’t be everywhere – only in select cinemas for a few days. It’s a similar release strategy to what Netflix did with the last Stranger Things episodes and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which I thought was cool. If you want to be one of the first to see The Immortal Man, you’ll have to hunt down one of those theaters showing it!

Peaky Blinders Is the ‘Peak’ of British Television

The show centers around the Shelby family, a criminal gang operating in the early 1900s. Led by Thomas Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy), the family aims to build power and wealth through illegal means. Over six seasons, they’ve been involved in everything from robberies and protection rackets to illegal gambling and violence – with the occasional wedding providing a peaceful break.

Throughout its run, the series featured incredible guest stars, including Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Neill, Sam Claflin, Tom Hardy, and Adrien Brody – who recently won his second Oscar. The show was known for its impressive cast and was consistently one of the best on television for several years. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews, with seasons 2, 3, and 6 earning perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes, and other seasons consistently scoring in the high 80s.

As fans might expect, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the movie, and Knight is confident it will be great. He’s not alone in feeling this way – Michael Gray, the actor who plays Finn Cole, has also shared his thoughts, predicting it will be a spectacular addition to an already amazing franchise, even though he isn’t in it.

Cole believes the upcoming project will be fantastic, praising the strong partnership between Steven and Cillian and predicting fans will really enjoy it, as he told The Hollywood Reporter.

You can currently watch all six seasons of Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Plus, the movie The Immortal Man will be in theaters on March 6th, and then available to stream on Netflix starting March 20th.
