Peacock’s The Copenhagen Test Opens The Door For The Overdue Truman Show TV Series

The success of “The Copenhagen Test” suggests it’s time to create a spin-off of “The Truman Show.” Peacock’s sci-fi series has been a hit with viewers since its late 2025 debut, consistently ranking high in streaming charts, though reviews have been mixed. Critics give it a 65% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences overwhelmingly approve with an 88% positive score. The show’s intriguing concept clearly appeals to general viewers, which isn’t surprising given its basis in the original film.

As a huge movie fan, I was really interested to hear that Thomas Brandon, the showrunner for The Copenhagen Test, is a big fan of The Truman Show – it’s one of my favorites too! And you can definitely see the influence. The new series centers around Simu Liu’s character, Alexander Hale, who realizes someone’s hacked his mind and is watching his every move. He has to act like everything’s normal while trying to figure out what’s real, which is exactly the kind of mind-bending premise that made The Truman Show so brilliant. The fact that The Copenhagen Test is doing well just proves there’s still a lot of potential in exploring these kinds of stories.

The Copenhagen Test Proves That The Pitched Truman Show TV Series Should Have Happened

The TV series The Copenhagen Test builds on the premise of the film The Truman Show – the idea that someone’s entire life could be a constructed reality – and successfully adapts it for a longer television format. It’s somewhat unfortunate, though, that this concept was revisited on TV, as the original film’s director, Andrew Niccol, had previously proposed a TV sequel to The Truman Show. His idea, developed after many failed attempts to create The Truman Show 2, would have featured multiple characters unknowingly living within a reality TV world following Truman’s escape from his fabricated life.

While The Copenhagen Test offers a temporary fix, it’s a shame that Niccol’s idea for a Truman Show TV series hasn’t moved forward. He first presented the concept in 2023, and as of early 2026, there haven’t been any updates.

Noccol’s idea for a sequel might have simply been overlooked, perhaps because studios thought revisiting a film from almost 30 years ago was too much of a gamble. While that’s possible, it’s worth noting that a new series would really be based on the captivating idea behind The Truman Show, rather than relying on the original characters or plot. A TV sequel could be successful on its own merits. The recent film The Copenhagen Test demonstrates that there’s potential in exploring this kind of concept, and the industry should take notice.

It’s Not Too Late For The Truman Show To Get A TV Sequel

Despite positive reactions from viewers, a Truman Show TV series still faces challenges. While Peacock’s new sci-fi show is generating buzz, critics haven’t been as impressed. While viewership is key to a show’s success, good reviews can help it stay on the air. Production companies will likely be watching shows like The Copenhagen Test to gauge audience interest. If this type of show remains popular, a new series could have a real chance of succeeding.

Niccol only recently shared his idea for a Truman Show TV series, and it didn’t seem like a concept that had been rejected years ago. He might still be trying to get it made. Although we would have enjoyed seeing a Truman Show series on TV sooner, we can still hope for it. In the meantime, The Copenhagen Test is available to watch.
