He explained that an early version of the script included a surprising and funny scene involving John Economos and Vigilante’s mother, showcasing the type of bold humor the writers initially explored before finalizing the season.

During an appearance on the official podcast for Peacemaker, creator James Gunn shared that he initially considered a surprising scene for Season 2, Episode 6. He had written a draft where John Economos kissed Vigilante’s mother. Gunn explained this was intended as a quick, shocking moment to disrupt Vigilante right before he went downstairs.

The podcast revealed this was the one and only time the character Economos appeared on the Earth-2 timeline. Writer James Gunn shared that he created a scene where Vigilante unexpectedly finds Economos and casually remarks, “Oh… my mom is with John Economos, dude,” before leaving the situation.

While recording, Steve Agee (who plays Economos) and Jennifer Holland both found a particular scene so ridiculous they started joking about it. Ultimately, director James Gunn removed the scene because it didn’t fit the overall speed and feel of the show.

The Earth-2 storyline for The Flash’s Vigilante centered around his encounters with his doppelgänger. The episode also featured humorous details found in his home, like boxes of “Cheeriohs” cereal and quirky lawn decorations, which playfully pointed out the differences between the two worlds.

Taylor St. Clair landed the role of Vigilante’s mother thanks to a particularly impressive audition. She perfectly portrayed the complex relationship between them – showing how she could handle Vigilante’s harsh treatment with a mix of humor and sadness. This casting choice highlighted Vigilante’s unusual character and demonstrated how even minor differences in this alternate reality could significantly impact relationships and create tension.
