Peacemaker Season 2’s Earth X Twist Just Revealed the DCU’s Darkest Timeline

Episode 6 of *Peacemaker* Season 2 finally explained the show’s alternate dimension, and it turns out to be the bleakest reality yet in the DC Universe. The second season continues the story of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, played by John Cena, who first appeared in *The Suicide Squad*. James Gunn has expanded the *Peacemaker* story into the new DCU with this season of the show, and it’s been exploring ideas about the multiverse.

Throughout much of Season 2, Peacemaker has been jumping between different universes thanks to a special pocket dimension created by his father. This all started when he killed another version of himself and then decided to live in that alternate reality, where things appeared much improved. In this universe, his brother and father were still alive, and Harcourt returned his affections. However, as revealed in Episode 6, this seemingly perfect life wasn’t what it seemed.

I was really captivated in episode six of Peacemaker! It was so intense watching his team – Harcourt, Adebayo, Vigilante, and Economos – follow him into that bizarre pocket dimension, determined to get him back. But what really struck me was a quiet moment near the end. Harcourt pointed out something really unsettling – the fact that there didn’t seem to be *anyone* who wasn’t white in this alternate reality. It was a subtle observation, but it added a whole other layer to the weirdness and made me think a lot about what was going on.

Adebayo is quickly becoming known in the area, and people soon begin to notice and chase her. Peacemaker then sees an American flag, but upon closer inspection, he realizes it’s been altered with a swastika, revealing the disturbing reality: this world is controlled by Nazis.

Earth X In DC Comics Vs. Peacemaker – Differences & Similarities

The disturbing alternate dimension seen in Peacemaker, where Nazis rule, actually comes from DC Comics and is known as Earth X. In this alternate timeline, the Nazis won World War II and established a global regime of oppression. This parallel world first appeared in Justice League of America #107 back in 1973.

Though featured in the show *Peacemaker*, the alternate Earth known as Earth X isn’t new to TV. It was previously explored in a four-part event called *Crisis on Earth-X* within the Arrowverse. That story depicted a frightening alternate reality where Germany won World War II and heroes were replaced by their evil counterparts.

Season 2 of *Peacemaker* features Earth X, a parallel world mirroring the comics where the Axis powers won World War II and took over the globe, including the U.S.A. However, the show’s version of Earth X goes even further, depicting the Nazis as having systematically eliminated all people of color during their reign.

Now that Peacemaker knows the truth about his reality, he’s facing a difficult situation: his father and brother, known as the “Top Trio” in this DC Universe, are revealed to be white supremacists. Peacemaker witnessed his father leading a group trying to harm his friend Adebayo, and this will likely make him question if this is truly the perfect dimension he once believed it to be.

Are the Sons of Liberty from Earth X In DC Lore?

I’m completely hooked on *Peacemaker* Season 2! It’s amazing to see that even with everything changing, there are still pockets of resistance out there on Earth X. In the latest episodes, we met this group called the Sons of Liberty who were planning something huge, but Peacemaker, being Peacemaker, swooped in and took them down, genuinely believing he was the good guy. What *really* got me, though, was learning that Adrian Chase/Vigilante’s Earth X counterpart actually *hates* Peacemaker – that’s why he was involved with the Sons of Liberty in the first place! It adds such a fascinating layer to everything.

Given that the Smith family in Earth X are villains embodying fascism and white supremacy, it seems the Sons of Liberty are probably the heroes in this version of reality.

In DC Comics, the Sons of Liberty are a secret group fighting to overthrow the US government, believing it has lost its way. They’re often shown as terrorists in *Superman* comics, though they don’t originally come from the alternate Earth X universe.

The DC comic universe features an alternate reality called Earth X, home to a rebel group called the Freedom Fighters, consisting of characters like Doll Man, Phantom Lady, and Uncle Sam. The upcoming second season of *Peacemaker* might combine these Freedom Fighters with the Sons of Liberty, suggesting the Sons of Liberty are actually the Earth X version of the Freedom Fighters.

Adrian Chase is an established hero with the Sons of Liberty on Earth-X. Now, the question is whether he can persuade Peacemaker and his allies to fight alongside them against the Top Trio and the oppressive regime controlling this universe.

The second season of *Peacemaker*, created and written by James Gunn, who also heads DC Studios, features returning stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. New episodes premiered weekly on HBO Max, starting August 21, 2025.
