Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Hazbin Hotel season 2 are ahead!
As a huge Fall Out Boy fan, I was SO excited to finally see Patrick Stump’s character, Abel, really get his moment in the spotlight in season 2 of Hazbin Hotel! The whole second season is finally here, and it’s been amazing to watch!
The second season of Hazbin Hotel introduced new characters, such as Abel, voiced by Patrick Stump. Vivienne Medrano first revealed the casting news at San Diego Comic-Con, where the character Ebaster also appeared.
Patrick Stump, best known as the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, also has a lot of experience doing voice work and singing in animated films. That background made him a great fit for the cast of Hazbin Hotel. However, it took a while for him to have a major role in season 2.
Patrick Stump’s Abel Is Underutilized Throughout Hazbin Hotel Season 2
It’s disappointing that such a talented performer had so little screen time in Hazbin Hotel season 2. He only had under ten lines of dialogue in episode 2, and even when he sang with the other angels—Emily, St. Peter, and the rest—his voice wasn’t showcased as well as it could have been.
He appears briefly—around five minutes—in episode 5 as one of the angels going down to Hell. However, he doesn’t have a significant role until the final two episodes of Hazbin Hotel season 2.
It’s a shame the show didn’t feature him more, but it was somewhat expected. The voice cast of Hazbin Hotel includes several well-known actors like Stephanie Beatriz and Keith David. Darren Criss and Jeremy Jordan, also in the cast, didn’t have many appearances in the first season, but their roles were expanded in the second season.
Given the recent pattern of casting choices and Abel’s prominent role towards the end of Hazbin Hotel, it’s probable that Patrick Stump’s character will have a bigger part if he returns for season 3.
Abel Finally Gets His Moment To Shine In The Finale Of Hazbin Hotel Season 2
I’ve been really captivated by Abel’s journey! It was great to see him step up as the leader of the angelic army in the episode before the finale – with Hell declaring war on Heaven, they absolutely needed someone strong in charge. Then, in the last episode, Sera gave Abel and Lute this incredible mission: to go down into Hell and rescue Emily. It felt like everything was building to that moment, and I was completely hooked!
When Lute rebels in Hell, Abel is put in a difficult position: step up as a leader or be walked all over. This causes him a lot of anxiety and leads to an emotional breakdown. He processes these feelings while performing a solo during “Hear My Hope,” the #2 song from season 2 of Hazbin Hotel.
Abel understands that if he doesn’t act, everything in Heaven could be lost, but he doubts his own ability to lead. He believes his father or brother would have been better suited to take charge.
What really strikes me is that Lute comes from a family with a dark past – his dad and brother were both murderers. It’s almost like he’s not even fazed by the violence because of them. But despite that, or maybe because of it, he’s stepping up and showing real courage and compassion. It’s amazing to see him lead with both strength and empathy.
Abel’s Solo In The Finale Will Thrill Fall Out Boy Fans
It was essential that Patrick Stump, if cast in Hazbin Hotel season 2, got a chance to sing a solo. Fall Out Boy fans, myself included, would have been very upset if he hadn’t! Thankfully, the season finale delivered, giving him a 55-second solo performance.
The solo for Abel really captures the energy of Fall Out Boy, thanks to the work of Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg. The fast tempo, powerful drums, electric guitar, and vocals all come together perfectly.
Honestly, if I had to pick at anything, I wish the drums had a bit more punch compared to the other instruments, and the song felt way too short! But seriously, as a Fall Out Boy fan, I absolutely love what Abel did on this solo, and I’m pretty sure everyone else will too. I’m already expecting to see clips of it everywhere online – it’s that good!
Hazbin Hotel Needs To Bring Back Abel For Season 3
Prime Video announced that Hazbin Hotel will have both a third and fourth season well before season two even aired, which means fans can look forward to more episodes with the characters they love. Whether Patrick Stump will be involved is likely, but hasn’t been officially confirmed.
Although he wasn’t officially confirmed until season two, his character now seems crucial after the events of Hazbin Hotel season two. He’s starting to embrace his abilities, learning to combine kindness with power. It’s clear Lute will seek revenge on him for preventing her destructive plan.
Honestly, it would be so strange if they brought this character in just to sideline him after a couple of episodes! They really started building him up towards the end of the season, and thankfully, he’s still alive! It just makes sense that he’ll be back for Hazbin Hotel season 3. And seriously, his solo performance was incredible – it would be a total shame not to give him another one!
