Paramount+, the streaming service behind popular shows created by Taylor Sheridan like Landman, Lioness, and 1923, has announced that Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, will not be returning for a fifth season. The show recently finished its fourth and final season on December 28, 2025, after first debuting in November 2021.
Good news for fans of Mayor of Kingstown: it’s been renewed for a fifth season! However, this season will be the show’s last. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, the final season will have eight episodes, a bit shorter than the ten episodes in each of the previous four seasons. Jeremy Renner will return as Mike McLusky, and Edie Falco will reprise her role as Nina Hobbs.
The upcoming conclusion of Mayor of Kingstown is noteworthy because it’s the first continuing series created by Taylor Sheridan to have a planned ending date since Skydance took over Paramount+ in August 2025. Sheridan’s other hit shows on the platform—including Landman, Tulsa King, and Lioness—have all been picked up for additional seasons following the change in ownership.
Mayor of Kingstown Has Been a Hit for Paramount+
According to data from FlixPatrol, Mayor of Kingstown is currently the second most popular show on Paramount+, trailing only Landman, which stars Billy Bob Thornton. The fourth season of Mayor of Kingstown focused on Mike McLusky’s struggle for control and culminated in a violent gang war within the city.
Hugh Dillon, one of the show’s creators, previously mentioned he’d hoped the series would last for at least seven seasons. He revealed that the showrunner, Sheridan, has a planned ending for Season 7, though whether the show will reach that point remains uncertain. Dillon stated that the ending is already known by those involved.
He explained that their aim is to reach Season 7, as that’s the furthest point they can go with the storyline – it’s where this particular plot point originated 15 years ago. Originally, the plan was for Mitch to die early on, and for a key event involving Mike to happen in the tenth episode of Season 7.
