For a long time, actors who appeared in movies and those who worked on television were considered to be in different categories. But that line has blurred, and now many popular fantasy TV shows feature well-known actors typically seen in Hollywood films. While Game of Thrones is a prime example, Penny Dreadful also stands out, boasting a high-profile cast that elevates it above many big-budget movies in the fantasy genre.

Many long fantasy anime, like shows in other genres, are divided into story arcs. This helps the best parts of the story really shine, but it can also make weaker arcs more obvious. Thankfully, that’s not a problem with these amazing fantasy anime – every story arc feels like a standout success.

It’s been two years since I last focused a tournament around live-action TV shows, and the number of new DC and Marvel series released since then is amazing. In fact, so many shows came out that some didn’t even make it into the tournament selection!

Despite not receiving the same widespread recognition as John Carpenter’s films like Halloween or The Thing, Starman has a dedicated fanbase. Recently, it became a top hit on Tubi, and Jeff Bridges has even hinted at wanting to revisit the role. After 42 years, now seems like a perfect time for him to do so.

Some of them have already died as adults, and in pretty strange ways, so nobody’s truly safe yet.

Despite a small $500,000 budget, the film Undertone caught the eye of A24, a major distributor, and is expected to be very profitable. This success is a significant achievement for director and writer Nico Tuason, who filmed the entire movie in his childhood home. Tuason’s impressive debut has led to a deal with Paramount and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster to take on a well-known horror franchise that has been popular for two decades.

The horror film Obsession is receiving rave reviews, boasting a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s directed by Curry Barker, who also made The Chair and Warnings. The story follows a man desperately trying to win over his crush. He breaks a mysterious object called the “One Wish Willow” and gets what he wants, but soon discovers the consequences are terrifying and come at a dreadful cost. Obsession will be released on May 15th.

The comedic Australian series Deadloch, created by Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney, recently released its second season on Prime Video to positive reviews. The show, which premiered in 2023 and was a critical hit, follows characters Dulcie Collins (played by Kate Box), Cath York (Alicia Gardiner), and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeline Sami). Prime Video plans to continue the series as part of its 2026 programming.
