Adapting books into movies can be wonderful, allowing for fresh interpretations. However, it’s a delicate balance, as changes can sometimes alienate those who loved the original story – particularly if the film loses sight of the core ideas and messages.
This weekend, March 27–29, 2026, Netflix is releasing several new shows that are expected to be popular, including the premiere of the crime thriller Detective Hole and the return of the true crime series Homicide. Detective Hole, an 8-part psychological thriller, has the potential to become Netflix’s next big hit and could be the most popular new series worldwide this weekend.
Dominic McLaughlin will play the main character, Harry Potter, also known as the Boy Who Lived. The first season of the show will be based on the first book in J.K. Rowling’s series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States). The story begins with young Harry living an unhappy life with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon Dursley, though he appears cheerful in this picture.
According to Netflix’s Tudum blog, the new Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, had the third-biggest opening of any film on the platform this year. It was viewed by 25.3 million people and watched for a total of 48.1 million hours. Only two films performed better: one with 40.4 million views and 76.1 million hours viewed, and War Machine starring Alan Ritchson, which had 39.3 million views and 71.4 million hours viewed.
A potential retcon appeared in the comic “City of Angels,” written by Jeremy Adams and V. Ken Marion. The story follows Green Lantern Kyle Rayner as he comes back to Earth and his city of origin, Los Angeles. He’s joined by Odyssey the Time Bandit, who is helping him find escaped aliens as a condition of her parole.
The magic of Hogwarts Castle is central to the story, and the Harry Potter films established a very specific look that was hard to surpass. While we’ve only seen bits of the Hogwarts in the new HBO series, it’s definitely not a simple copy of the movie sets – it’s a completely original design. However, it seems the series did draw some inspiration from the video game Hogwarts Legacy.
It’s no surprise that Ritchson and director Patrick Hughes (known for The Hitman’s Bodyguard) were eager to discuss a possible sequel during their interview with Liam Crowley from ScreenRant. Ritchson was especially enthusiastic, revealing the working title for the sequel is War Machines – a clear nod to the 1986 film Aliens.
