I’m really enjoying Oscar Isaac’s performance as Victor Frankenstein right now! But honestly, what everyone is talking about is whether he’ll ever come back as Poe Dameron in Star Wars. He’s finally talking about it, and I’m on the edge of my seat to hear what he says!
Isaac played the character Poe Dameron, a Resistance pilot, in the recent Star Wars films: The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). In a recent interview with GQ, the Emmy-nominated actor discussed the possibility of returning to the franchise. He clarified a previous comment where he jokingly said he’d only come back if he needed money for another house, admitting he said something a bit rude and didn’t put much thought into it at the time.
Oscar Isaac said he’d consider returning to the Star Wars universe, but he has concerns about working with Disney. He explained that he’d be open to it if Disney could avoid what he sees as a slide towards harmful ideologies. This conversation took place shortly after Disney suspended Jimmy Kimmel following controversial remarks he made after the death of Charlie Kirk. Kimmel was later reinstated by ABC four days after the interview.
Following the death of Charlie Kirk, comedian Jimmy Kimmel addressed criticism he received, stating that some associated with the MAGA movement attempted to distance themselves from the alleged killer. Kimmel clarified on September 23rd that he never intended to downplay the seriousness of the murder.
Oscar Isaac Previously Talked About Coming Back to Star Wars
I was really surprised and amused to hear Isaac Asimov jokingly refer to himself as a “Star Wars” fan back in August 2025 – it was a funny Ralph Wiggum-esque moment! He then admitted he’d be willing to return to the franchise, but only if the role was really compelling. He explained that he needs to be genuinely excited about a project – something that would make him jump out of bed and eager to work on it. It really comes down to whether there’s a part he’d truly love and that would motivate him to commit.
Oscar Isaac’s character, Poe Dameron, quickly became popular with fans after being introduced in the recent Star Wars movies. He first appeared in 2015’s The Force Awakens alongside characters like Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren, and the droid BB-8. Due to his popularity, Poe Dameron was featured in his own comic book series, Star Wars: Poe Dameron, and a novel called Star Wars: Poe Dameron: Free Fall. Isaac also returned to play the role in the animated series Star Wars Resistance in 2018.
Oscar Isaac was asked about potentially joining Ryan Gosling in the upcoming Star Wars film, Starfighter, scheduled for release in May 2027. The two actors previously worked together on the 2011 movie Drive. Isaac responded to the question with playful ambiguity, saying, “For Star Wars?! We’ll see… yeah, I’m ready when you are.”
Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is also directing a new Star Wars film, currently titled Starfighter. The movie will star Ryan Gosling, along with Mia Goth, who recently appeared with Oscar Isaac in Frankenstein. Matt Smith, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings have also joined the cast. Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. For those interested in Isaac’s work, you can currently watch him in Frankenstein on Netflix.
