Oscar Isaac seems unlikely to reprise his role as Moon Knight in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future, based on his recent statements. The first season of Moon Knight premiered on Disney+ in 2022 and was very well-received, earning an 86% approval rating from critics and an 88% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The first season of Moon Knight ended with a hint of a new storyline involving the hero’s third personality, Jake Lockley, potentially setting up a second season. But over three years have passed, and there’s still no official news about whether the show will return. Recent statements from the show’s lead actor suggest that Moon Knight might not be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for quite some time.
Oscar Isaac’s New Disney Comments Make A Moon Knight Return Unlikely
Oscar Isaac recently discussed a potential return as Poe Dameron in Star Wars with GQ. While this doesn’t directly involve the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his response is relevant to Marvel. He stated he would consider reprising the role, but currently isn’t eager to work with Disney.
I recently sat down with Oscar Isaac, and the timing of our conversation was… interesting. It happened just after Disney briefly pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air, then brought it back. It was clear his comments were directly related to that whole situation. He went on to say, and I quote, that it would be ‘great’ if Disney didn’t ‘succumb to fascism.’ Even though Kimmel’s show did return, Isaac’s words weren’t delivered lightly – they felt like a real statement, and a pretty pointed one at that.
It’s unclear if the actor would want to work with Marvel Studios (owned by Disney) again after everything that happened. Plus, Disney might be hesitant to work with him following his recent statements. Considering Marvel hasn’t prioritized bringing back Moon Knight, it seems likely that will remain the case.
Why Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight Not Returning To The MCU Would Be Disappointing
It would be a real shame if Oscar Isaac’s performance as Moon Knight in season one was a one-time thing. He did a fantastic job creating two distinct and compelling personalities with Steven Grant and Marc Spector. However, we only got a brief glimpse of the third personality, Jake Lockley, at the end of the season.
Because of this, the Marvel Cinematic Universe had already planned a future storyline for Moon Knight, and if Oscar Isaac doesn’t return, those plans would be cancelled. We also didn’t get to see Moon Knight team up with other Marvel heroes on screen, but the interactions shown in the animated series What If…? suggested that could have been exciting.
It’s looking unlikely that Oscar Isaac will reprise his role as Moon Knight in the upcoming two Avengers movies that are meant to bring together most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with the growing number of supernatural heroes and villains in the MCU, fans are hoping to see a team like the Midnight Sons introduced, which could potentially bring Moon Knight back in the future.
