Fans were still reeling from the unexpected ending of the *Ragnarok* web novel when the original author, Chugong, added to their disappointment. He announced that the upcoming sequel won’t be a continuation of the story, but rather a spin-off created purely for fans.
In a recent interview with LitRes, Russia’s leading digital book and audiobook platform, author Chugong explained the origins of *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok*. According to a translation by X user @SoloLevelingGuy, Chugong created *Ragnarok* as a way to let another author explore the world of *Solo Leveling*. The official web novel, written by Daul, concluded in July 2025 after 357 chapters, telling the story of Sung Jinwoo’s son, Sung Suho, and his battle against a new danger. Although the novel is finished, the webtoon adaptation is still being released.
Solo Leveling Author Hints at New Official Sequel
Chugong has explained how Ragnarok fits into the Solo Leveling story. He clarified that it’s a separate storyline exploring an alternate possibility, not a direct continuation of the main plot. He compared it to the different universes found in Marvel stories. However, Chugong also suggested he might return to write an official sequel to Solo Leveling himself, potentially offering a definitive continuation of the core story in the future.
If the author Chugong writes a sequel, it will significantly impact where the story and characters go next. It’s unclear if Sung Suho will be part of it, especially since his storyline is now considered separate from the main narrative. Interestingly, the author Daul has suggested the series will continue, potentially focusing on Jinwoo. Daul wrote that the legacy of Sung Jinwoo, the ‘Shadow Lord,’ will endure and that the story might return in a new form someday. Daul also revealed he always saw himself as a caretaker of the series rather than its creator, aiming to honor Chugong’s original ideas.
Kakao announced *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok* in April 2023, and the first 104 chapters were released on KakaoPage on April 10th. The author of the original *Solo Leveling*, Chugong, supported this continuation by Daul, which follows a new generation of hunters within the same universe. A webtoon adaptation is also planned.
Despite the end of the *Solo Leveling* web novel, the story isn’t over! Plans are underway to expand the franchise, including a new project that has been announced. Plus, a third season of the anime is coming, though we don’t know when it will be released yet.
