Original Dexter Star’s Resurrection Season 2 Return Teased After Renewal

Now that season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection is confirmed, James Remar, who starred in the original series, shared his heartfelt reaction to the renewal and what he anticipates seeing in the new episodes. This announcement comes after the unexpected cancellation of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, despite it initially being picked up for another season. Showtime officially confirmed on October 8th that Michael C. Hall would be returning for a second season of Dexter: Resurrection.

Showtime has renewed Dexter: Resurrection for a second season, following the success of its first season. The initial season broke viewership records for the network and received strong positive feedback from both critics and viewers. Currently, season one boasts a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, raising expectations for the return of the crime drama starring Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott.

James Remar, known for his role in the original Dexter series and Dexter: Resurrection, recently told ScreenRant he’s thrilled to work with Michael C. Hall again in season 2. Remar is reprising his role as Harry Morgan, a character he’s played since the show first aired in 2006, and shared his excitement on the IT: Welcome to Derry red carpet.

I’m excited to see what happens next with the show, and especially to continue working with Michael C. Hall. All my scenes are with him, and it’s really special because we’ve known each other and worked together for almost 20 years. I think of him as a son, and I truly enjoy our scenes together. I hope we get to work together again soon.

When discussing “further development” in Dexter: Resurrection season 2, Remar was likely referring to Dexter Morgan’s personal growth, much like what we saw in season 1. Throughout that season, Dexter received guidance – and sometimes warnings – from visions of his deceased father, Harry. As Dexter pursued multiple serial killers and tried to reconnect with his son, Harrison, these visions helped him navigate a particularly challenging and life-changing period.

One of the best parts of Dexter: Resurrection season 1 was the connection between Harry and Dexter, so fans will be happy to hear that actor Remar is looking forward to showing more of their relationship in season 2. After Dexter ended season 1 alone, having taken Prater’s boat and files, he’s likely to have more conversations with Harry as he starts hunting again.

In season one of Resurrection, Michael C. Hall and Jack Alcott finally shared scenes together as Dexter and Harrison, a dynamic expected to continue in season two. This was a significant change, as Remar, who plays Harry, wasn’t present in the Dexter: New Blood revival, with Jennifer Carpenter’s Debra Morgan fulfilling the role of Dexter’s conscience. Resurrection season one introduced a new dynamic where Harry also assisted Dexter in dealing with Harrison’s darker impulses.

Although production hasn’t started yet on season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection, a release date from Showtime is still some time away. Michael C. Hall recently announced that the writers are getting together, signaling that work on the new season – and the continuing stories of Dexter, Harrison, and Harry – is about to begin.
