Only Murders in the Building Season 6: Renewal, Cast & Story Details

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Only Murders in the Building season 5, episode 10

I was so thrilled to hear that Only Murders in the Building is coming back for a fifth season! It was announced right after the finale, which was amazing. Honestly, the show just keeps getting better and better – everyone loves it, and each season brings in even bigger names. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

The season 5 finale of Only Murders in the Building clearly hinted at the plot for season 6, and now Hulu has confirmed what many viewers suspected. We know where Charles, Mabel, and Oliver will be investigating their next case!

Many consider this to be the best murder mystery show of the last ten years, and it’s heading to a new location for its sixth season. We already know about five characters who will appear, and the shocking ending of the last season strongly suggests who will be the victim in the next one.

Only Murders In The Building Season 6 Is Confirmed

Hulu officially announced on October 28, 2025, that Only Murders in the Building will return for a sixth season. Here’s the complete announcement they released:

Hulu has ordered a sixth season of its hit comedy series, Only Murders in the Building. The new season will have 10 episodes and is produced by 20th Television.

For the first time, the popular crime series will be filmed outside of the United States. The show’s familiar team of detectives is heading to London to solve a brand new case, leaving New York City behind.

Based on previous seasons, we can anticipate the next season will be released around late summer or early fall of 2026.

The show’s release might be pushed back slightly because filming overseas is taking longer than planned. However, there are currently no signs of a major delay, and it’s still expected to return next fall as scheduled.

According to John Hoffman, co-creator and showrunner, the decision to kill off Cinda Canning at the end of season five was intentional. He told The Hollywood Reporter that it was a way to bring the show, Only Murders in the Building, back to its original roots.

The show’s first episode brought Charles, Mabel, and Oliver together through their shared love of a true-crime podcast hosted by Cinda. They first met during what seemed like a fire drill in their apartment building, the Arconia. Later, Tina Fey’s character, Canning, became a major supporting player and a key suspect when a murder occurred in the second season.

The unexpected death at the Arconia in the season 5 finale stunned viewers and immediately sparked speculation about the future of the show’s three main podcast hosts. Hints from Steve Hoffman about season 6 suggest a dramatic turn that could upset fans who prefer classic whodunit mysteries.

The show’s creator explained that season six of Only Murders in the Building will be set in London because the UK – home to authors like Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle – is the perfect setting for a classic, comforting murder mystery in the style of Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Miss Marple.

Only Murders In The Building Season 6 Cast

John Hoffman recently shared some hints about what will happen when the Arconia’s resident mystery-solvers travel to London. We still don’t know, however, which characters will be joining them on their trip.

Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short are returning as the main characters, but the rest of the cast for season six hasn’t been announced yet. We do know that two other characters will definitely be making an appearance.

It appears Cinda Canning will be a central figure in the upcoming murder mystery, giving Tina Fey a prominent role. Plus, the last scene of season five strongly suggests Howard Morris, played by Michael Cyril Creighton, will become a major character, essentially joining the core group as an equal.

This fits with Howard becoming more involved in solving mysteries with Charles, Mabel, and Oliver, as he helped crack a key part of the case in season 5, episode 9. It’s possible we’ll see him join their investigation when they travel to London in season 6.

Besides Howard and Cinda Canning, it’s unclear which characters will be back for the next season. However, given the new British setting, we can expect a lot of new guest stars and cameos.

As a huge fan of Only Murders in the Building, I was blown away by the celebrity cameos in Season 5 – they really went all out! It feels like the show is becoming known for its star power, and honestly, I’m already trying to guess which amazing British actors we’ll see pop up this season alongside our favorite Arconia podcasters. I’m also really hoping Paul Rudd makes another appearance; he’s been fantastic in the last three seasons!

Only Murders In The Building Season 6 Story Details

Aside from the fact that season 6 of Only Murders will take place in London, details about the upcoming episodes are still unclear. What little we know about who might have killed Cinda Canning comes from a short clip of her true-crime podcast, “The Girl with the Curls,” which is based in the UK.

Cinda begins with a characteristic and insightful introduction. Soon, we find ourselves completely drawn into the world of her podcast’s main character, as she starts to tell her story.

During my trip to the UK, I discovered two things I’m now completely hooked on: a delicious jasmine tea that I enjoy every day, and a captivating mystery. It’s a story about a young woman with fiery red curls, set against the misty backdrop of London.

She’s the main suspect in the killing of a member of the royal family, and the public, encouraged by the British press, is now threatening her. However, I’m convinced she’s innocent and I feel compelled to help her. I think getting her to America is the only way to ensure her safety.

Cinda’s storytelling immediately brings to mind scenes of betrayal and murder from historical England, and we suddenly see a woman matching her description – with the same red curls – stumbling through the streets of New York, her hands covered in blood. The shock comes when she falls right in front of the Arconia building, and we recognize her.

The “Girl with the Curls” turns out to be Cinda Canning, seemingly dying with blood coming from her mouth. Considering Cinda’s past on Only Murders in the Building – where she’s known for creating dramatic true-crime stories for her podcasts – it’s possible this is all a setup. We’ll need to wait and find out what really happened.
