Whether you enjoy the anime, manga, or live-action series, there’s plenty happening in the world of One Piece! Season 2 of the Netflix show is slated for 2026, the anime’s Egghead arc will wrap up by the end of 2025, and the manga is full of surprising twists as Luffy and the crew explore Elbaph. Plus, Johnny Depp recently interacted with the fandom, which could be interesting to follow.
Johnny Depp attended Tokyo Comic Con this weekend, and even though he didn’t appear on stage with manga artist Eiichiro Oda, Oda still sent him a gift. Depp looked a little puzzled by the present, which was themed around his character Captain Jack Sparrow. I’m excited about it, though, and hoping it hints that Captain Jack – or a character inspired by him – might appear in One Piece someday.
Eiichiro Oda Gave Johnny Depp A Special Drawing Of Captain Jack Sparrow
It makes sense that Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, would prefer to connect with Mackenyu (who plays Zoro in the live-action series) directly, rather than give a gift to Johnny Depp himself. So, it was Hiroaki Hirata, the Japanese voice actor for Sanji, who presented Depp with a unique Noren door curtain featuring a drawing of Captain Jack Sparrow reimagined in the One Piece style. Here’s a look!

It’s interesting to learn that Hiroaki Hirata is the consistent Japanese voice of Johnny Depp. Unlike some countries where different actors dub the same star in various films, Hirata has voiced Depp in a remarkable thirty-six movies and continues to do so. This long-standing connection likely explains why Hirata, rather than manga artist Eiichiro Oda, was the one who presented the gift.
Could One Piece Bring Captain Jack Sparrow Into Its World?
Imagine if Captain Jack Sparrow suddenly showed up in One Piece – it would be a huge surprise for many fans! However, because Disney owns the rights to the character, the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, wouldn’t be able to directly copy his appearance in the manga.

Okay, so I was watching the new live-action One Piece on Netflix, and something hit me – are we actually going to meet one of Luffy’s crew way before we thought we would? It’s a total theory right now, but there’s a character who showed up, and honestly, the timing and hints are making me think they might be a Straw Hat Pirate in disguise or someone connected to them. I’m already deep-diving into fan theories to see if anyone else caught this, because if it’s true, that’s a huge reveal!
The creator of One Piece often draws inspiration for characters from real historical pirates and famous celebrities. While Eiichiro Oda hasn’t officially stated he bases characters on celebrities, fans have spotted striking similarities between many One Piece characters and well-known actors and musicians – with rapper Eminem being a particularly surprising example.
Considering everything, it’s surprising that One Piece hasn’t featured a character similar to Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. One Piece actually started airing four years before the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, meaning Oda had plenty of opportunity to include a nod to Johnny Depp’s character. Perhaps he’s been waiting to create his own version of that pirate archetype. As long as Depp isn’t asked to voice the character, I think it’s definitely possible!
I’m trying not to get too excited, but I’m looking forward to watching the second season of the live-action One Piece on Netflix. As a longtime anime fan, I’m also really eager to see how the Egghead arc unfolds, and it’s great to hear they’ve already started working on Season 3 of the live-action series.
