
A highly acclaimed science fiction action film is coming soon. Released in 2021, Dune: Part One marks director’s initial adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. The movie introduces viewers to a vast, futuristic universe, focusing on Paul Atreides, a young nobleman, and his family’s assignment to govern the dangerous desert planet Arrakis.
Denis Villeneuve directed Dune, with a screenplay co-written by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film stars as Paul Atreides, and features a strong supporting cast including Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. A Third ‘Dune’ Movie Is Set to Hit Theaters in 2026

The first Dune movie was a hit with both critics and audiences. It earned an 83% rating from critics and a remarkable 90% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. While critics noted that the film sometimes had trouble capturing the full scope of the book, they ultimately praised its impressive visuals and ambitious storytelling, calling it a “visually thrilling adaptation.” Audiences simply loved the movie’s stunning sights and sounds and found the story completely captivating.
Even with challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and Warner Bros.’ decision to release it simultaneously in theaters and on streaming, Dune earned $407.7 million worldwide. The film was also a major success at the 94th Academy Awards, receiving 10 nominations and winning six awards, including Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score, which went to Hans Zimmer.
A sequel to Dune arrived in 2024 with Dune: Part Two, expanding the impressive cast to include Florence Pugh (known for Black Widow and Oppenheimer), Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, Seven Psychopaths), Léa Seydoux (No Time to Die), and Austin Butler (Elvis, Caught Stealing). The sequel was even more successful than the first, earning $714.4 million globally and receiving a 92% approval rating from critics and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
