Gordon Ramsay is one of the most famous and respected chefs on television. His honest opinions about food have gained him a large following and have often helped restaurants improve. While he appreciates many dishes, there’s one food he simply refuses to eat – and I happen to agree with him!
With fans eager for the return of his shows around 2026, chef Gordon Ramsay recently revealed to The Takeout one food he absolutely won’t eat. It’s no surprise it’s a vegetable, and his dislike comes down to how it’s typically cooked.
Honestly, the one thing I absolutely can’t stand is badly cooked food. And let me tell you, there’s nothing – nothing – worse than overcooked Brussels sprouts. The smell alone is enough to ruin my day!
He specifically mentioned the Brussels sprouts were overcooked, but didn’t dismiss the whole meal. When properly cooked – quickly and to a crisp – Brussels sprouts can be really tasty. The problem is, they’re easily overcooked, and when they become mushy, they develop a sulfurous smell that reminds me of, well, a fart.
I’m a big Gordon Ramsay fan, but isn’t his new show basically a copy of one he already did?
Chefs often say that enjoying food involves more than just taste, and this is a great illustration of that idea. I’ve definitely overcooked Brussels sprouts before, and while the flavor can be okay, it’s hard to ignore the association with the food-making machine from Mortal Engines that turns waste into meals. Just like it’s considered impolite to disrupt a meal with bodily noises, it might also be inconsiderate to fill the house with the strong smell of Brussels sprouts and expect everyone to appreciate it.
It’s ironic that Gordon Ramsay complains about the smell of Brussels sprouts, considering he once made whiskey using sheep manure. Apparently, that wasn’t considered actual food, which seems to be his standard for what’s acceptable.
Gordon Ramsay once mentioned he reserves his harshest criticism for liars, and I’m really hoping someone will test that by lying to him about overcooking Brussels sprouts. It’s hard to imagine he’d be more upset than when he’s served bad or undercooked food, but I’d be fascinated to see what happens!
I’m really hoping Gordon Ramsay will have a new show coming out in 2026, and I’m keeping an eye out for any news about it. Until then, it’s fun to see his recent post celebrating 29 years – he hasn’t changed much at all!
