OG Avenger Shares Details Of Jonathan Majors’ Marvel Firing & Scrapped Kang Plans

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had to change many of its plans for the next few phases due to challenges like the pandemic and internal issues at Marvel Studios. The new storyline, called The Multiverse Saga, initially centered around Kang the Conqueror as the primary villain for the Avengers, with actor Jonathan Majors portraying the character based on the comic books.

So, I was listening to the radio the other day, and Jeremy Renner – Hawkeye from the Avengers, you know – was on Breakfast Club Power 105.1 FM talking about the Jonathan Majors situation. After Majors was found guilty of those assault and harassment charges, Renner basically said he’s confused about what even counts as real news versus just gossip. He literally said, “I don’t know. I don’t know what the difference is between gossip and anything else.” It’s a pretty interesting take, honestly.

The actor, a long-time part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, admitted he didn’t have enough information about Jonathan Majors or the details of his case to offer an opinion. However, he emphasized that he knew there were significant plans for Majors’ character and expressed sadness about how things unfolded.

Ultimately, Jeremy Renner, who plays Clint Barton, believes a thorough investigation is necessary. Jonathan Majors last appeared as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a film whose post-credits scene showed multiple versions of Kang assembling.

Originally planned as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Marvel Studios changed course after legal issues arose involving Jonathan Majors. They not only fired the actor but also removed Kang from their overarching storyline, The Multiverse Saga. At San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the studio revealed a new plan: Robert Downey Jr. will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but in a different role than previously expected.

Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, will portray Doctor Doom in the upcoming movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo brothers are directing both films. Filming for the first team-up movie wrapped on September 19, 2025.

Although filming for Avengers: Doomsday is complete, we don’t yet know when production will begin on the final movie in Phase 6. That final film, Avengers: Secret Wars, will conclude the Multiverse Saga and is currently scheduled for release on December 18, 2027.

Jeremy Renner has stated he won’t be appearing in any future Avengers movies. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will move forward with Phase 6 in January 2026, starting with the new Disney+ show, Wonder Man.
