October 9 Will Be The DCU’s Last Big Day of 2025

October 9, 2025, will be the conclusion of the DCU’s initial run, following the release of two major projects this year. While Creature Commandos kicked off the franchise’s TV presence on HBO Max, 2025 was the key year for the DCU, bringing us its two biggest releases: Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.

Superman featured David Corenswet as the new Superman, and also introduced fresh takes on classic characters like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. At the same time, Peacemaker Season 2 followed John Cena’s Christopher Smith in a story involving the Multiverse and a parallel universe. The season premiered on HBO Max on August 21st, and its final episode is coming up soon.

Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 8 – the final episode – will be released on HBO Max on October 9, 2025, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. This marks the last major DC Universe release of the year.

Peacemaker‘s Season 2 finale is generating a lot of excitement (at least, so far) because James Gunn, a co-CEO of DC Studios, has stated that the series leads directly into the upcoming Man of Tomorrow project. That project will feature David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

A thrilling conclusion is shaping up after Episode 6 brought back Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in a surprise appearance. The episode also revealed that the alternate Earth Peacemaker preferred is Earth X – a reality where the Nazis were victorious and gained control.

What’s Next for the DCU in 2026?

As the DCU’s exciting 2025 plans wrap up, fans have much to anticipate for the franchise in 2026. Next year will bring three new projects from DC, including Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface.

Lanterns is currently slated to be the first series released, with an expected debut in early 2026 on HBO Max. The show will star Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, with Chandler’s character confirmed as the central figure in Lanterns. The story will center on these two Green Lanterns as they look into a string of mysterious killings across America, which may be connected to a bigger, more dangerous problem.

After a memorable appearance at the end of Superman, Milly Alcock is set to reprise her role in Supergirl, scheduled for release on June 26, 2026. The film will be inspired by Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, telling the story of Kara Zor-El’s adventures in space with Krypto, before they face challenges from villains like Jason Momoa as Lobo and Krem of the Yellow Hills.

I’m really excited to share that Clayface is finally hitting theaters on September 11, 2026! It’s directed by James Watkins, and the screenplay is by Mike Flanagan – a fantastic combination. The movie delves into the story of Matt Hagen and what happens when he tries to adjust to life as a shapeshifting bad guy in Gotham within the DCU.
