Russell Crowe‘s new World War II thriller has a release date on a popular streaming service. The film, which also stars another Academy Award winner, blends historical drama and suspense as it tells the story of an American army psychiatrist investigating a notorious Nazi war criminal after the war ends.
Written and directed by James Vanderbilt (known for Zodiac and Scream), Nuremberg debuted in U.S. theaters in September 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. The film, based on Jack El-Hai’s 2013 book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,” stars Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek in a tense psychological drama. Rami Malek plays U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, who is tasked with evaluating the mental state of Hermann Göring (Crowe) before the Nuremberg trials.
Critics initially gave Nuremberg a good score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences loved the psychological thriller even more, and its score has now jumped to a remarkable 95% – earning it a “Verified Hot” rating. Reviewers praise the performances of Russell Crowe and Rami Malek, calling their dynamic a thought-provoking duel and highlighting the film’s dramatic impact and historical accuracy.
‘Nuremberg’ Lands on Netflix Next Week
Critics had mixed feelings about the film, but Russell Crowe received widespread praise. Most agreed that Crowe’s powerful performance elevates Nuremberg, though the movie’s slow pace and reserved emotional tone prevent it from fully exploring the nuances of its important subject matter. Julian Roman of MovieWeb noted some shortcomings but specifically praised Crowe for his excellent portrayal of Hermann Göring and highlighted the appropriately serious and dignified visuals created by cinematographer Dariusz Wolski.
The film Nuremberg was a financial success, earning $45 million worldwide on a production budget of about $10 million. This suggests it will also perform well on Netflix, where it will begin streaming on March 7, 2026. As part of an agreement between Netflix and Sony, Nuremberg will be available on the platform for eight months before moving to Hulu, which is owned by Disney.
With a stellar cast including Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Mark O’Brien, Colin Hanks, Wrenn Schmidt, Lydia Peckham, Richard E. Grant, and Michael Shannon, here’s a look at what Nuremberg is about…
