‘Now You See Me’ TV Spin-off Series Is Now a Real Possibility (Exclusive)

A producer for the Now You See Me series has hinted at a possible television spin-off. This news arrives as Lionsgate gets ready to release the third film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, in theaters on November 14th. The new movie is the first installment since 2016’s Now You See Me 2 and brings back original stars Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman. Joining them are new cast members Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt.

Bobby Cohen, the producer of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, recently told TopMob that they’ve been talking about creating a TV series based on the movies.

Cohen shared that the team behind the Now You See Me films has been talking about a possible TV series for a while, but they want to make sure it feels new and original. He explained they don’t want to just stretch the movie’s plot into a longer format, but instead create something “completely different.”

As a huge fan of seeing stories adapted for different mediums, I’ve always been fascinated by the challenge of turning a film into a TV series. We actually brainstormed one idea where we really wanted to do something new with the material. The last thing you want is to just stretch a two-hour movie into eight hours of TV – that feels lazy. The goal was to create something genuinely different, a fresh take on the original concept.

The producer of Now You See Me explained that the idea for the new series comes from real-life magic. After talking to numerous magicians, he learned that many start out as apprentices, which gave him a great idea for a TV show.

The show revolves around four assistants to a renowned magician who is found murdered. They immediately become the main suspects, and must use their magical skills to clear their names and uncover the true killer, as envisioned by Cohen.

We’ve talked to many magicians, and a lot of them begin as apprentices or working behind the scenes for famous Vegas performers. We had an idea for a story: what if a star magician is murdered, and his four assistants become the main suspects?

Therefore, the characters must rely on illusions and trickery to demonstrate their innocence and uncover the true culprit. We wanted the story to feel connected to the world of ‘Now You See Me,’ but also stand on its own as something new and different.

Cohen shared that he and the director, Ruben Fleischer, have received messages from many aspiring magicians who say the movie Now You See Me motivated them to learn magic.

Cohen didn’t officially confirm a TV show is happening, but he’s excited about the possibility of continuing the franchise on television. He said, “I think we made magic cool. And so, I think that would be fun to extend into TV, for sure.”

We’re really excited about exploring this idea. I believe we’ve helped make magic, especially the kind you see in Vegas, popular and appealing again.

Ruben Fleischer and I have spoken with many aspiring magicians who told us this franchise inspired them to learn magic. It’s amazing to think we helped make magic seem cool again, and we definitely think exploring that further with a TV series would be great.

Currently, Lionsgate is working to bring the Now You See Me series back to theaters with the new film, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. This installment features both the original team of illusionists – the Four Horsemen – and a fresh group of performers.

The first film in 2013 made $351.7 million globally, and the sequel in 2016 earned $334.8 million – both were huge successes. In today’s movie market, making over $300 million would be a major achievement. Luckily, initial responses to the new film have been very good, hinting that it still captures the original’s appeal. If it does well in theaters, the planned TV series might finally move forward.

Will Now You See Me Spin-Off on TV?

The proposed TV spin-off of Now You See Me, conceived by Cohen, sounds promising. The idea of young magicians using illusions to prove their innocence is particularly interesting. Adding a murder mystery element to the series could be very popular with audiences, assuming it’s executed effectively over 8 to 10 episodes.

The main issue is that this feels similar to what the movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t did – bringing in new, younger actors like Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt to revitalize the cast.

Lionsgate is actively looking to expand its successful movie series, and they’ve indicated that Now You Don’t is a high priority. They highlighted the series at CinemaCon 2025, suggesting they have big plans to bring it back.

If the movie is successful, Now You See Me could become a similar franchise to John Wick. John Wick has already grown into four movies, a prequel series called The Continental, and a spin-off film, Ballerina.

A TV show continuing the story from the ‘Now You See Me’ movies would be a logical next step, allowing the universe of illusionists to grow beyond the original Four Horsemen.
