Superman fans are disappointed that several of the older Superman movies are leaving HBO Max on November 1st. Meanwhile, 2025 is an exciting year for the DC Universe, as a new Superman, played by David Corenswet, will be introduced in theaters. To build excitement for this fresh take on the character by James Gunn, HBO Max saw an increase in Superman-related content starting June 1, 2025.
Featuring Superman content on HBO Max and a strong marketing campaign helped the DC Universe’s Superman movie become a big financial success. However, just as the movie was introducing the franchise to a wider audience, some disappointing news about future Superman projects has surfaced before November.
HBO Max announced that it will be taking down eight Superman movies from its DC collection on October 31, 2025, which will disappoint many fans. Some of the films being removed include Superman: Man of Tomorrow, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and Superman: Red Son.
Starting November 1, 2025, the eight Superman movies listed below will no longer be available for streaming on HBO Max.
- Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons
- Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
- Superman: Man of Tomorrow
- Superman: Red Son
- Superman: Unbound
- The Death of Superman
- Reign of the Supermen
These are all separate, animated movies made by Warner Bros. Animation, and each one takes place on a different version of Earth.
These titles may have been removed from HBO Max as the service updates its DC content to keep things new and interesting. It’s also possible the streaming rights for these shows have run out, but they could return to the platform later, perhaps even before the release of Supergirl on June 26, 2026.
The second season of Peacemaker concluded on October 9, 2025, wrapping up the major DC Universe releases for the year. 2026 looks promising for DC Studios, with the planned debuts of Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.
Which Superman Titles Are Available on HBO Max?

Even after removing a lot of Superman content, HBO Max still has some great movies and shows for DC fans. Leading the way is James Gunn’s Superman, which is a fantastic starting point for both longtime followers and newcomers to the DC Universe.
Once considered a cornerstone of the DC movie universe, Superman is a film that stays faithful to its comic book origins. It also benefits from James Gunn’s distinctive humor and a strong performance from its talented cast, making it a worthwhile watch.
Released in 1978, Superman: The Movie is a classic film that’s now streaming on HBO Max. It really set the standard for all Superman movies that came after it. For DC Comics fans, it would be fantastic to watch this film alongside Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story to gain even more insight into Christopher Reeve’s memorable performance as the iconic hero.
I think if you’re craving a good Superman story, you should definitely check out films like Superman Returns and the show Superman & Lois. They’re a little overlooked, but they both really focus on what makes Superman human, especially through touching stories about his family and relationships. They offer something a bit different and really connect with you on a personal level.
For fans of animation, both My Adventures with Superman and Superman: The Animated Series are great choices. They perfectly capture the classic heroism of Superman and feature stories with various villains, potentially offering a glimpse of what’s to come in future live-action DC Universe movies and shows.
Despite causing some discussion among DC fans, Man of Steel is still worth watching, largely thanks to Henry Cavill’s strong portrayal of Superman and Zack Snyder’s striking visual approach.
