Noah Hawley, the creator and showrunner, hinted at a potential crossover with the Predator franchise in Season 2. While the two series haven’t connected recently, the release of Predator: Badlands has sparked discussions about bringing them together again.
During a recent interview on the SmartLess podcast, Noah Hawley addressed fan speculation about a crossover between Alien and Predator in the upcoming season of Alien: Earth. However, he clarified that a Predator appearance isn’t planned for the show, despite what some fans might be hoping for.
Noah Hawley praised Dan Trachtenberg, the director of Prey and Badlands (which Hawley particularly enjoyed), saying he believes Trachtenberg has a clear vision for the Prey franchise. Hawley confirmed he hasn’t been involved in any planning with Trachtenberg and doesn’t intend to take on the project himself.
The series Alien: Earth debuted on FX and FX on Hulu in August and quickly became a significant part of the Alien universe. It focuses on the first instance of a person’s mind being fully transferred into an artificial body, all happening under the supervision of the Prodigy Corporation and its leader, along with a group known as the “Lost Boys.”
When the spaceship Maginot, filled with dangerous alien creatures like Xenomorphs, crashes into a Prodigy Corporation building, Wendy and her friends, the Lost Boys, begin to investigate and discover a terrifying new reality. The main characters in Alien: Earth include Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh, a synthetic mentor to Wendy, Alex Lawther as Wendy’s brother and a medic at Prodigy Corporation named Alex, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, the CEO of Prodigy, and Babou Ceesay as Morrow, the only person who survived the crash of the Maginot.
When Alien: Earth was released, critics loved it and most viewers enjoyed it. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a “Certified Fresh” rating of 94% based on 198 reviews. Viewers, however, have given it a slightly lower score of 65% based on over 2,500 ratings on the site’s “Popcornmeter.”
The Continued Crossover Between the Alien and Predator Franchises – Explained
The Alien and Predator series have crossed over in movies, comics, and games for years, but it seemed to stop with the 2007 film Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. That film was the last time the two franchises officially acknowledged sharing the same universe – until earlier this year, when director Dan Trachtenberg, who’d worked on the series before, released Predator: Badlands.
In Predator: Badlands, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi plays Dek, a young Predator cast out from his tribe because he’s smaller than the others. He not only survives in a dangerous landscape but actually succeeds, despite facing numerous challenges. The introduction of Thia, and her apparent sister Tessa (both played by Dakota Fanning), officially connects the Predator and Alien universes, confirming they share the same world.
Similar to the success of his earlier film, Prey, Predator: Badlands has received very positive reviews. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 86% “Certified Fresh” rating based on 26 critic reviews. Even more impressively, audiences overwhelmingly approve, with a 95% rating from over 5,000 viewers.
Alien: Earth is currently available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+ (in select regions).
