Nintendo finally revealed the first images from its live-action Legend of Zelda movie on Monday. Posted on the Nintendo Today app, the photos show Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, giving fans a first look at the young actors in their roles.
These photos also serve as Nintendo’s formal acknowledgment that production is fully underway.
This news follows recent reports that filming had already started in New Zealand, a country famous for its beautiful scenery and history of successful movies.

Nintendo has also shared individual photos of the actors Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who play Link in the new film.
These new images confirm previous leaks shared by fans last week, marking the first official acknowledgement of the project by Nintendo.
A Breath of the Wild–Inspired Zelda, a Twilight Princess–Influenced Link
The photos show Zelda wearing robes similar to her outfit in Breath of the Wild – a light blue, detailed, and elegant design that will be familiar to newer fans. Link, played by Ainsworth, looks like he’s inspired by Twilight Princess, with a darker green tunic and a tougher appearance.

We have yet to see Link’s signature green hat in any official photo or video leak.
The combination is striking: we see Princess Zelda from the latest Zelda games alongside a Link whose design is inspired by one of the darker, more atmospheric entries in the series. It’s unclear if this pairing hints at a merging of different Zelda timelines, is simply a creative choice, or represents a completely fresh take on the characters. Only time will tell what it means.
Dichen Lachman May be Impa
Fans who analyzed leaked footage from the set think Dichen Lachman, known for her role in Succession, might be playing Impa, a loyal character who helps Zelda in multiple Zelda games.

Nintendo hasn’t officially confirmed the casting, and recent photos released by the studio don’t feature her. However, the rumor is spreading online, and many fans believe it’s likely true until they hear otherwise.
A Milestone Moment for the Franchise
For the first time ever, the popular Zelda video game series is becoming a major live-action movie, so even small updates are big news. After years of rumors, fan-made projects, and false starts, seeing official photos from the movie is a huge milestone for Nintendo’s beloved adventure series.

As filming progresses over the next few months, we’ll likely see more pictures and behind-the-scenes details. But for now, these first photos from The Legend of Zelda movie give fans what they’ve been hoping for: a real glimpse of Link and Zelda as they’ll look in the film.
Nintendo says they’ll share more details soon, and based on the enthusiastic response online, fans are going to be eager for those updates.
