The original zombie horror movie, Night of the Living Dead, is being remade once again. A trailer has also been released, giving fans their first look at this updated version of the classic film.
ITN Distribution is behind the new version of Night of the Living Dead, though they haven’t announced when it will be released yet. Directed by Christopher Ray, this remake is based on the 1968 classic by horror legend George A. Romero. Like the original, the new film starts at the beginning of a zombie outbreak, focusing on a group of people who team up to survive the night. You can watch the trailer below.
Night of the Living Dead Gets Another Remake
The new movie follows a small group of survivors as they fight to stay alive during a global zombie apocalypse, where the recently deceased come back to life and relentlessly hunt the living.
The new version of the film has been in the works for a few years, ever since it was first announced in 2021. Vivica A. Fox will star, playing a character based on Duane Jones’ iconic role. Pro wrestler Rob Van Dam also appears, with a quick glimpse of him in the latest trailer. The cast also includes Brittany Underwood (known from Crossroad Springs), Miko Hughes (Pet Sematary), Zack Ward (A Christmas Story), Adam Huss (General Hospital), and Robert Carradine (Kung Fu), who sadly passed away in February.
Night of the Living Dead Is a Legendary Zombie Film
Many consider Night of the Living Dead to be the film that established the modern zombie horror genre. Director George A. Romero continued to create zombie films after its success, including the well-known sequels Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. He also wrote a remake of Night of the Living Dead, directed by Tom Savini and released in 1990, featuring horror actor Tony Todd in the role of Ben.
Because the original Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain—meaning it’s not protected by copyright—there have been many remakes over the years. These include Night of the Living Dead 3D, Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, Night of the Living Dead: Re-Animation, and even an animated version called Night of the Living Dead: Darkest Dawn.
ITN Distribution hasn’t announced when the new version of Night of the Living Dead will be released yet.
