Fans eager to see Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir on Prime Video will have a choice in how they watch. The latest trailer shows the live-action series will be offered in both classic black and white and a full-color version. Cage is returning to the role after originally voicing it in the 2018 animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
You can see the trailer below.
The new live-action series “Spider-Noir,” featuring Nicolas Cage, is coming to Prime Video on May 27th. It’s unique for being presented in both classic black and white and vibrant full color. The tagline suggests a darker take on the Spider-Man story: without power, there’s no responsibility.

Prime Video announced that Spider-Noir features Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a world-weary private investigator in 1930s New York. After a devastating personal loss, Reilly is compelled to confront his history while also being the city’s sole protector.
Trailer Breakdown
Okay, so the trailer kicks off with Cat Hardy pressing Ben Reilly – Spider-Noir, for those keeping track – to spill the beans on something. We don’t know what that something is just yet. But true to the noir vibe, Ben counters that Cat already knows the ending, and she tells him to just start from the beginning. He then explains he’s battling all sorts of inner demons – ticks, thoughts, urges he’s trying to keep down. And as he talks, we get a really cool glimpse into his gritty, Depression-era world.

Robbie Robertson, played by Lamorne Morris, questions Ben about what’s happening. The trailer then flashes through a series of disturbing images. Soon after, Nicolas Cage appears, playfully exaggerating his disheveled appearance by claiming he got into a bar fight and was heavily intoxicated.

The trailer keeps moving at a fast pace, and we finally see Spider-Noir fighting and even dancing. It also shows the show’s main idea with the line: “With no power comes no responsibility.” This flips the usual Spider-Man lesson on its head, hinting that Spider-Noir won’t be held back by Peter Parker’s strong sense of right and wrong. Interestingly, some of the action scenes look like they could have come straight out of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies.

First Impressions
The trailer has a striking, atmospheric quality with a smooth, slightly blurred visual style. It brings to mind the look of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, but benefits from updated effects. However, Spider-Noir will undoubtedly be driven by Nicolas Cage’s performance, which he’s described as a blend of Humphrey Bogart’s cool demeanor and the unpredictable energy of Bugs Bunny.

People online have had a fairly muted reaction so far. Some appreciate the option to watch in color or black and white, and many are intrigued by the fact that Nicolas Cage is the star.
I think it looks good.
Good to have something different.
I can see we get tons of new movies
And we only have these actors for so long

Others have criticized what they see as an overly polished look and a forced sense of diversity.
Wow, that looks really bad. Nicolas Cage appears stiff and unnatural, almost like a wax figure, and his fellow actors are stereotypically cast as a Black man, an Asian woman, and a plus-size Hispanic woman.

Final Thoughts
Alongside Nicolas Cage, Spider-Noir will also star Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston, Brendan Gleeson, and a number of other talented actors.

Starting May 27th (and May 25th for MGM+ subscribers), Prime Video viewers can finally see if the new series Spider-Noir is a hit or not. All eight episodes, each about 45 minutes long, will be available to stream at the same time, making it perfect for a Memorial Day weekend binge.
