New Thunderbolts Concept Art Reveals Sentry’s Void Form Almost Looked Way Scarier (Photos)

In a recent unveiling of concept art for Thunderbolts, a more intimidating design for Lewis Pullman’s character, The Void, was revealed. This menacing character first appeared as a villain in the 2025 Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster and showcased what an unfettered interpretation of a powerful figure like Superman might be in these comic book realms. As the film came to a close, The Void transformed into the ominous antagonist, shrouded in darkness.

In a different phrasing, the dominion of The Void transformed New York City into an area enveloped by a cloak of shadows, causing citizens to vanish intermittently and relive their most harrowing experiences (perhaps hinting at events in Spider-Man 4). On screen, this gloomy portrayal was indeed chilling, but if recent concept art is any indication, The Void could have appeared even more formidable.

user @BelovaBolts recently posted some unused design concepts for Lewis Pullman’s character, The Void, in the Thunderbolts film project. One of these images hinted at a spine-tingling alternative design for the Thunderbolts villain.

In the climactic movie scene, the mighty Marvel antagonist appeared enveloped in a red, pulsating energy, reminiscent of the Extremis effect that viewers recognized from “Iron Man 3,” immersed in a dark backdrop.

The initial, unutilized concept of Void’s design appears to be more otherworldly compared to its final version in Thunderbolts, featuring demonic and fiery aspects instead of the ominous, all-encompassing darkness it’s famously recognized for.

In this alternate image, the character’s design shares similarities, but the tendrils have been enhanced with additional texture, making them appear more like the symbiote suits worn by some of Spider-Man’s villains such as Venom or Carnage.

Thunderbolts” centers around a group of unconventional protagonists, who find themselves united due to being considered disposable by the U.S. government. Facing off against the wicked schemes of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (portrayed by Julia Louise Dreyfus) and the enigmatic The Void, played by Pullman, they must join forces to save the day.

Under the guidance of director Jake Schreier from Beef, this highly praised superhero ensemble features Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, and Wyatt Russell. The sensational Thunderbolts can now be enjoyed globally via Disney+.

Will The Void Ever Return to the MCU?

At the culmination of “Thunderbolts”, Lewis Pullman’s charmingly crafted superhero, now known as the Sentry, has successfully purged the sinister influence of Void from his consciousness and integrated into the New Avengers team as their altruistic, blond-haired member.

While this doesn’t imply that his dark alter-ego will never return, it continues to be a persistent danger when it comes to the Sentry character in the comics. This suggests that Pullman’s MCU hero could easily revert to the opposite side of his superhero persona if faced with a particularly challenging day.

There’s been talk that the character might reappear when Avengers: Doomsday arrives. Some fans are wondering if Robert Downey Jr.’s Dr. Doom, in the 2026 team-up movie, could leverage The Void to fuel his ambition for Multiversal conquest.

A house labeled as “Annie Reynolds’ Home” emerged on a map associated with a fictional end-of-the-world scenario, known as a Doomsday set. Annie Reynolds is significant because she is the mother of Bob Reynolds from Pullman, which could suggest that the story might revisit the traumatic alternate dimension at some point in the future.

It would be great if, when The Void returns, it’s just a brief visit. The New Avengers led by Bob might manage to break him out of his magical malaise and, in doing so, prevent any permanent damage to the familiar Marvel Multiverse that fans love.
