New Star Wars Rumor Claims That New Movies Will Be Inspired By The Mandalorian, And I Have Thoughts

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but get excited about one of the highly anticipated movie events in 2026 – the release of “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. This film will mark a significant return to the big screen for the Star Wars universe since the release of “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.

After a series of delays for the movie side of the franchise, it seems that we’re finally on track for a consistent flow of content with the upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter” and the new Daisy Ridley-led film making progress.

In the long run, it’s unclear what Lucasfilm has in store for Star Wars on the big screen. A recent whisper suggests that they might be working on a novel concept – combining multiple Star Wars movies into a new narrative, drawing inspiration from The Mandalorian. While this idea is intriguing, I’m not entirely convinced it’s the best direction to take.

How The New Star Wars Movies Will Take Inspiration From The Mandalorian

In my perspective as an ardent fan, I’m excited to share a rumor that circulates around Daniel Ritchman, often referred to as a serial scooper (via SFFGazette). Although he doesn’t boast a flawless record, his past predictions have been spot on. According to him, the forthcoming Daisy Ridley-led film, which promises Rey’s ascension to Jedi Master, is said to be set approximately 15 years post-“Rise of Skywalker.” This film, rumored to kickstart a series, will introduce fresh characters and narratives. The series is anticipated to culminate in a grand “event” film that will reportedly reintroduce characters from the past.

It seems quite reminiscent of the upcoming “Star Wars” film, which Dave Filoni is set to direct. Following the establishment of the franchise on Disney+ by “The Mandalorian”, spinoffs such as “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka” have emerged. In addition to next year’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, there are also plans for a movie that will serve as a conclusion for the “Mandoverse”, bringing together characters from all the different shows.

Star Wars’ Reported Plan Could Work, But I’m Not Convinced

It seems that these new Star Wars projects are primarily planned for release on the big screen, which makes them resemble more the initial phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than The Mandalorian. Given the success of the concept, it’s not surprising that Star Wars might be considering a similar approach.

Although I’m generally open to this idea, I do have some reservations about implementing it at this time. There are several factors that make me question whether it’s the best approach at the moment.

Initially, it’s worth noting that even the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is facing some challenges currently. It’s uncertain whether audiences have grown tired of the cinematic universe idea altogether, or if there are particular issues with the MCU itself. Given that many efforts at long-form storytelling on the big screen haven’t been as successful as hoped, it’s hard to say for sure that Star Wars fans, or movie enthusiasts in general, are eagerly awaiting another one.

The success of “Star Wars” on the big screen has been a challenge, to put it mildly. Despite recent positive developments, many planned “Star Wars” films have failed to materialize, often before filming even began. Should similar circumstances occur with your major project, there’s a risk it could unravel or at the very least, face such long gaps between installments that viewers may lose interest.

It’s worth noting that as of now, we haven’t had a chance to watch “The Mandalorian and Grogu” or Dave Filoni’s highly anticipated “Mandoverse” movie. Given the current situation with theaters, it’s uncertain if these films will be box office hits. If they aren’t successful for any reason, it might not be wise to use them as templates for future projects.

I’m looking forward to experiencing the latest Star Wars movie on the big screen, and I’m open to anything that broadens the expansive universe with fresh narratives, characters, and settings. While I can get behind constructing a cinematic realm (cinematic galaxy), I must admit that I’m not fully convinced this is the perfect moment for such an undertaking at present.
