New Spider-Man TV Show Reveal Makes A Major Brand New Day Theory Look Even More Unlikely

A new detail about the character Spider-Noir challenges a long-held belief among fans of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline. While the upcoming live-action Spider-Man show on Prime Video isn’t connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, its planned story could still hint at what’s coming next for Spider-Man in the MCU.

As a big Spider-Man fan, I’m really intrigued by where things are going with the next movies. It seems like after facing off against huge threats like Thanos, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is going back to his roots – battling some of the classic, smaller-scale villains from the comics. And it looks like The Hand will be involved, which reminds me a lot of the organized crime element they’re building in the Spider-Noir story with Silvermane. It’s cool to see these connections and a return to that street-level action!

Tombstone, a significant villain and crime boss from Marvel Comics, has never appeared in a live-action film or TV show – until now. He’s set to appear in two separate Spider-Man projects in 2026. First, Abraham Poopola will portray him as a henchman of Silvermane, and then, just two months later, Marvin Jones III will take on the role of Tombstone in Brand New Day.

It’s unusual to see two different versions of Tombstone appear so close together, but that doesn’t mean the storylines of Spider-Noir and Brand New Day can’t still overlap in interesting ways.

Spider-Noir May Be Adapting Man-Spider, Which Hurts His Chances Of Appearing In Brand New Day

It’s really interesting – fans like me have noticed a similar theory popping up about both Brand New Day and Spider-Noir. We think the main character in each story might eventually turn into Man-Spider, that huge, six-armed version from the old Spider-Man: The Animated Series from the 90s. Honestly, there’s been a lot of stuff in both storylines that makes it seem like that transformation could actually happen!

The first trailer for Spider-Noir showed a disturbing figure resembling Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly, but drastically altered with a shaved head, a twisted face, and spider-like limbs. This imagery, along with mentions of DNA mutation in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, immediately brought the character Man-Spider to mind.

Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner warned Peter Parker that his DNA was changing, echoing a similar warning given to Peter by Dr. Curt Connors in the animated Spider-Man series. This brought back memories of that storyline, where Peter took control and became the Man-Spider. The trailer for the new movie seemed to confirm this pattern, with Spider-Man’s eyes changing – a sign that the transformations he’s experiencing won’t have a happy outcome.

It’s looking less and less likely that Peter Parker will become Man-Spider in the ‘Brand New Day’ storyline. The recent trailer for Spider-Noir showed a creature resembling Man-Spider attacking someone, suggesting that storyline is exploring that transformation instead. If a similar creature appeared on TV just two months earlier, it would lessen the impact of seeing Peter Parker himself undergo the change.

Spider-Noir Is In A Better Position To Make Man-Spider Work

It would be good if the Spider-Man: Brand New Day project didn’t include the Man-Spider storyline. If only one of these projects can adapt that version of the character, Spider-Noir is the better choice. Man-Spider is a naturally dark idea, and it would fit well with the tone and style of Spider-Noir, even though it originally appeared in a cartoon.

The world of Spider-Man Noir draws heavily from the style of film noir, creating a dark and realistic atmosphere. This has allowed for interesting and often unsettling takes on familiar Spider-Man characters in the comics, and it seems likely the upcoming live-action version will continue that trend. If the character Man-Spider appears, he’s expected to be suitably terrifying and disturbing, fitting the overall tone.
