Filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have hinted at their upcoming sci-fi project, which will follow their recent film, Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling.
What do we know about Lord & Miller’s new Sci-Fi movie?
I remember when Lord and Miller first announced they were tackling ‘Artemis’ back in 2017 – it was exciting news, as it’s based on the novel by Andy Weir, the same guy who brought us ‘The Martian’. In fact, Weir’s latest book, ‘Project Hail Mary’, is actually what Lord and Miller are working on now, so they clearly enjoy his stories!
The story of Artemis follows Jazz Bashara, who lives in Artemis, the only city built on the moon. She’s struggling to make ends meet with a low-paying job and a small-time smuggling operation. When a potentially huge opportunity presents itself, Jazz jumps at the chance, quickly becoming entangled in a dangerous plot to control the entire city.
Artemis was ultimately shelved, with Lord and Miller choosing to focus on Project Hail Mary. They’ve shared with The Hollywood Reporter that Artemis hasn’t been completely abandoned and remains a possibility for a future project.
Miller described a script called Artemis as ‘delightful.’ The biggest challenge with the story, which is set on the moon, was figuring out how to realistically portray the one-sixth gravity. They now believe they’ve solved that problem, making the project feasible.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are promoting their new movie, Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace. Grace wakes up on a spaceship with amnesia and soon discovers he needs to figure out why the sun is fading. He then teams up with an unexpected friend who might be able to help him save Earth.
Amazon MGM Studios is scheduled to release Project Hail Mary on March 20.
