R.L. Stine, the creator of one of the most popular book series ever, is used to seeing his stories come to life on screen. His scary tales have become movies, TV shows, video games, and comics. Now, for the first time, he’s exploring animation as a way to share his work.
According to Deadline, R.L. Stine’s book series, *Stinetinglers*, is being adapted into an animated show by Limestone Animation, a new studio based in Ontario, Canada. The series began in 2022 and currently has four books, with a fifth planned for next year. Each book contains original short stories by Stine, the popular author behind the *Goosebumps* series, which has sold over 400 million copies worldwide in 35 languages. Stine stated that animation is the ideal way to bring the spooky stories of *Stinetinglers* to life.
I’m incredibly excited about how these scary stories will come to life – it’s unlike anything I’ve done before. I was especially impressed with the creative approach from Limestone Animation, and I knew right away they were the perfect team to adapt my stories for the screen.
The latest version of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps is a TV series that streamed on Hulu and Disney+. Created by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the show began in 2023 and was brought back for a second season which aired earlier in 2024. However, it was announced in August that the series had been canceled after a total of 18 episodes.
An Animated R.L. Stine Series Makes Perfect Sense
Fox Kids
It’s surprising R.L. Stine’s books haven’t been adapted into animation yet, but it actually makes a lot of sense. His popular series like *Goosebumps* and *Fear Street* have entertained readers for years, and now, with *Stinetinglers*, he’s reaching a new audience with his signature spooky style. These short stories are fast-paced and easy to enjoy, making them a great way to test the waters for a possible animated series.
Limestone Animation, a new studio founded by Sean Connolly and Donnie MacIntyre, believes they’ve found the ideal first project. The founders stated they are thrilled that R.L. Stine has chosen them to adapt his newest book series, adding:
We’re launching Limestone Animation with ‘Stinetinglers’ because it embodies our vision: to create daring, imaginative stories that connect with viewers of all ages. It’s exactly the kind of creative storytelling we want to be known for.
We don’t have a release date for the animated series *Stinetinglers* yet, but you can follow R.L. Stine on social media for the latest news. While you wait, the 2023 *Goosebumps* series is streaming on Hulu and Disney+, and the original 1995 *Goosebumps* series is available on Netflix or Tubi for free this Halloween.
