New ‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer Highlights Action, Sparks Fan Debate

The initial trailer for the new Masters of the Universe movie focused on humor, but the latest one emphasizes action and clearly shows what’s at risk. This isn’t just a story about Prince Adam going back to Eternia; it appears to be about He-Man fighting to rescue his world from overwhelming dark forces.

The new live-action movie is already getting people talking, especially when compared to the classic ’80s cartoon. Fans are debating everything from Skeletor’s voice to Idris Elba’s portrayal of Man-At-Arms, and even the overall look of the world of Eternia – it seems like everyone has a strong opinion!

Setting the Stakes

The trailer starts with Prince Adam captured and thrown into a dungeon by Skeletor’s forces. However, the mood quickly changes as he inspires his friends to prepare for a fight. We then see quick shots of familiar, beloved characters before the camera pans out to reveal the impressive Castle Grayskull.

The story shifts to Adam, now on Earth. The controversial pronoun joke from the first trailer isn’t included here. Adam reveals he’s been trying to find his way back home and that Skeletor has destroyed Eternia, leaving him feeling accountable. If the movie can genuinely explore themes of loss and making amends, He-Man’s story could appeal to a much wider audience than just existing fans.

Now that the scene is established, the rest of the trailer is all about the action, showing Adam drawing his sword and becoming He-Man. All the battles take place on Eternia this time around. The previous trailer suggested some fighting would happen on Earth, but this one keeps the conflict entirely on Eternia.

Jared Leto’s performance as Skeletor has been the most talked-about part of the film, leading to a lot of debate among fans.

Creative Choices Put Skeletor in the Spotlight

Though we don’t see his face – Skeletor’s skull mask hides it – actor Brett Leto voices the character. He chose a much deeper, more intimidating voice than the original cartoon’s, which was known for being over-the-top and high-pitched. This change in voice has been a surprising element for some fans of the adaptation.

Some fans still remember director Travis Knight calling Skeletor “the embodiment of toxic masculinity.” While it’s not exactly clear what he meant by that, the comment definitely worried a lot of people.

Hearing the director describe Skeletor as “the embodiment of Toxic Masculinity” completely turned me off from this project. I grew up loving Masters of the Universe and was hoping for a good adaptation, but I’m tired of seeing current social issues forced into everything. Skeletor is simply an evil, skull-faced wizard – his character has nothing to do with concepts of masculinity.

Following the success of Project Hail Mary, Amazon MGM Studios might have another popular movie with the new Masters of the Universe trailer. Like the hit film starring Ryan Gosling, it looks like this movie will focus on delivering simple, enjoyable entertainment. If it’s well-received, it could launch a new film series and bring He-Man back to the big screen in a big way.
