New ‘Fantastic Four’ Video Proves Reed Richards’ Powers Almost Looked Way Better

A recently released clip from behind the scenes of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* showcases Reed Richards’ abilities and hints at how they were intended to be used in the movie. With Pedro Pascal playing the elastic genius in the 2025 film, excitement is building as more footage is shared. Fans have also gotten a sneak peek at a deleted scene featuring Walter Hauser as the Mole Man.

Marvel Studios illustrator Rodney Fuentebella posted a video on Instagram featuring an early concept for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*. The video shows Mr. Fantastic using his stretching powers in a way that didn’t make it into the finished movie.

The artist described how Reed’s powers could be shown effectively, particularly through scenes of him stretching and interacting with objects around him.

Hi everyone! Here’s a new concept I developed for a potential Fantastic Four movie, tentatively titled ‘First Steps.’ This idea focuses on a dynamic way to showcase Reed Richards’ stretching abilities. Specifically, I envisioned a scene in the third act where he quickly descends from the top of the Baxter Building, using his powers to swing through and interact with surrounding objects.

The video shows Mr. Fantastic falling rapidly, and at one point, he quickly uses his stretchy arms to grab onto a pole or part of a building.

As he fell, the hero spread his arms, preparing for another acrobatic move.

A particularly impressive feat, not witnessed in recent live events, was Reed’s ability to quickly change direction and speed by extending one leg and wrapping his foot around obstacles during moments of intense action.

There were a few slightly awkward moments, too. While Reed is incredibly skilled, he’s not flawless. This picture captures a moment where he seems to bump into something while quickly moving, but his body recovers smoothly and wraps around the object with ease.

Reed Richards could do something amazing with his incredibly flexible body: he’d wrap himself around a pole, becoming incredibly thin like a Fruit by the Foot, and use that to build up speed.

Before landing like a superhero, Mr. Fantastic cleverly flattens his body to act like a parachute and gently slow his descent. This technique is similar to what Elastigirl does in *The Incredibles* when she rescues Violet and Dash after a plane crash, helping them float safely down to the water.

Most viewers liked John Krasinski as Reed Richards, but many wished they’d seen more creative uses of his stretching powers, especially after seeing the recent concept footage.

The movie had a few standout scenes, such as Reed Richards skillfully throwing the Super-Ape into the water. Another memorable moment was the frightening scene where Galactus almost snapped Reed like a rubber band, which reinforced the idea that he isn’t as powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Honestly, even though those scenes were okay, none of them really lived up to the potential shown in Fuentebella’s original concept video. That video had some seriously cool ideas about what the character could *do*, and it felt like the final product didn’t quite capture that magic.

Okay, I was a little bummed about some things not making it into the latest movie, but honestly, it makes me excited to see what Marvel does with those ideas later on. Maybe we’ll even see them in the next *Avengers* film, *Doomsday*! It feels like they’re saving some cool stuff for the future, and I’m here for it.

Did Marvel Studios Do The Fantastic Four Justice?

The movie *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* offered a scientifically-focused explanation of the team’s powers, but some fans felt it didn’t quite capture the essence of those powers.

Vanessa Kirby’s portrayal of Sue Storm also stood out, thanks to director Matt Shakman’s clever visual effects. Instead of simply disappearing, her invisibility and force fields were shown as distortions of light, making her powers feel more realistic than in previous movies.

Johnny Storm, played by Joseph Quinn, had several scenes involving flying with flames. However, some reviewers felt these scenes weren’t as visually impressive as the flying sequences in the recent *Superman* movie, which audiences were still comparing them to at the time.

Although fans liked how Ben Grimm (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) looked with CGI, some wonder if the character wasn’t strong enough compared to his comic book version, and if he didn’t get enough screen time.

Despite its flaws, *First Steps* was a significant improvement over previous *Fantastic Four* movies. It established a strong base for the characters and their future, and a follow-up film is reportedly being considered.
