The fourth season of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer has finished, leaving the future of actress Neve Campbell unclear. The show’s creator hasn’t yet explained the complex connection between her character, Maggie, and Mickey Haller.

Premiering in 2022, The Lincoln Lawyer is a series based on Michael Connelly’s popular sixth book. It centers around Mickey Haller, an optimistic lawyer portrayed by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who operates his practice out of his Lincoln Town Car while handling cases throughout Los Angeles. The show also features Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Campbell as Maggie McPherson, Angus Sampson as Cisco, Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, and Lana Parrilla as Lisa Trammell.

In a recent interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Ted Humphrey (creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer) and actor Diego Garcia-Rulfo talked about how season 4 ended, what’s next for Campbell in season 5, and the real story behind Mickey and Maggie’s connection. Seeing Maggie and Mickey work together will also give Maggie a fresh perspective on him, especially as they clash over their views on the legal system.

For the first time, Maggie experiences what it’s like to see things from Mickey’s perspective, helping her to better understand him.

Mickey and Maggie are central to the show’s emotional core, and their relationship is what viewers will consistently follow and support. The original story always highlighted Maggie’s importance, and we wanted to stay true to that. We also felt the time was right to give Maggie a more significant role in the show’s current storyline.

Garcia-Rulfo talked about what might happen with Maggie and Mickey in the next season, acknowledging many questions were left unanswered at the end of season four. He said people often ask him when the two will become a couple, but he doesn’t have an answer. He does know Mickey considers Maggie the love of his life and is looking forward to reading the new scripts to see how their story unfolds.

Since it first came out four years ago, the show has been incredibly well-received, earning a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes overall. Season 2 was a standout, achieving a perfect 100% score on the site. As of right now, though, there’s no official Rotten Tomatoes score available for the fourth season of The Lincoln Lawyer.

Although we don’t know exactly when season 5 of The Lincoln Lawyer will be released, it will have 10 episodes. You can currently watch the first four seasons on Netflix.
