I’m so excited everyone finally gets to see The God of the Woods! But I keep seeing people asking what happened with Mindhunter season 3, and it’s a bummer. The show was amazing – critics loved both seasons when they aired between 2017 and 2019, so it wasn’t a quality issue, that’s for sure.

Fincher explained that although Mindhunter was creatively ambitious, it didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify its expensive production costs. Netflix offered the show’s creators a decision about its future, but ultimately, without increased viewership, a third season wasn’t possible.

Following the second season, the streaming service decided it wasn’t worth continuing to finance a costly show that only appealed to a small audience. The creators of Mindhunter were then given three choices: lower the show’s budget, broaden its appeal to a wider audience, or cancel it altogether. They ultimately chose to end the series.
