The new erotic thriller, Desire, quickly became a global hit after its release on Netflix on July 17th. It reached number one in 27 countries on its first day, including Austria, Romania, and France, and then expanded its reach to top the charts in an impressive 67 countries, including the U.S., by its second day.
The final installment, Desire, concluded the heartwarming love story of Nick and Charlie. Despite receiving very positive reviews, the movie didn’t perform as strongly as expected, debuting at number eight on Netflix’s global charts and not yet cracking the Top 10 in the US.
The show Desire overtook both the compelling true story Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea and the thriller The Body in the Locker in popularity. Worldwide, Desire is performing slightly better than the latest Hercule Poirot film.
What Happens in Desire?
This suspenseful and sensual story centers on Lucero, a seemingly perfect lawyer with a beautiful home, loving husband, and wonderful children. But despite appearances, she’s secretly unhappy.
Lucero’s life unravels when her husband employs Matías, a young swim instructor, and she becomes involved in a passionate affair with him. As their secret relationship intensifies – fueled by desire and jealousy – the stability of her family begins to crumble. This creates a volatile dynamic between Lucero and her daughter, putting everything she’s worked for at risk and forcing her to confront just how much she’ll do to safeguard herself.
Teresa Simone’s first film as director, Desire, features Ludwika Paleta as Lucero, José María Yazpik as her husband Fernando, and Óscar Casas as the swimming coach Matías.
Even though many people watched Desire, critics didn’t seem to enjoy it. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film only has two reviews, and both were unfavorable. Karina Adelgaard from Heaven of Horror felt the story was predictable and disliked the characters, describing them as simply unlikeable. There’s no data available on how general audiences reacted.
