As a huge movie and TV fan, I was really interested to read Netflix’s latest report. It basically confirms why they’re bringing back that crime show, even though it started as a limited series. Apparently, with an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was a hit! Netflix loves to highlight its wins when deciding what to keep going, and it seems like they’re willing to change plans if something really takes off. We saw that with Stranger Things – it was originally meant to be just one season, but because it did so well, they kept it going. It’s good to know they pay attention to what viewers like!

The show Untamed began as a short, self-contained crime drama set in the Wild West, streaming on Netflix. It centers around Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), a National Park Service agent who’s investigating a murder in Yosemite. Because it proved popular, Netflix decided to order a second season.

Netflix’s recent 2025 report shows they made a good decision renewing Untamed for another season. The crime drama was the third most-watched original series on Netflix in 2025, earning 92.8 million views and a total of 451.6 million hours of watch time after its release on July 17, 2025.

These figures position the show slightly below the fifth season of Stranger Things, which garnered 93.5 million views for a total of 879.7 million hours watched, and Wednesday season 2, which achieved 123.9 million views and 964.1 million hours viewed. Given its strong performance among Netflix’s most popular series, a renewal for season 2 of Untamed seems highly likely.

The series Untamed has been a hit with viewers, and critics agree – it currently holds an 83% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers particularly enjoyed the show’s complex mystery, the strong performance by lead actor Bana, and its stunning filming locations. These elements explain why Untamed was so popular and why Netflix was eager to continue the story.

While Untamed concluded with a satisfying ending that resolved the main storyline, there’s still potential for future stories. Kyle could take on a new case if he returns to Yosemite, but it’s unclear what that case might be or how it would develop his character.

I totally understand why Netflix gave the green light for a second season of Untamed! It’s been a huge hit for them, performing as well as some of their all-time most-watched shows. While it’s hard to say if the next season will be quite as popular, I’m excited they’re developing new episodes – it feels like they’re setting themselves up for continued success with this series.
