The director of one of Netflix‘s biggest action hits has hinted at ambitious plans for where the story could go next. Although the streamer hasn’t officially announced a follow-up yet, the filmmaker has shared his vision for the future. And what he’s imagining sounds like a thrilling, action-packed continuation.
Director Tjahjanto shared his plans for The Shadow Strays on X/Twitter. He’s currently busy reviving Jason Statham’s popular action franchise, The Beekeeper 2, but he also announced that he envisions both a sequel and a spin-off prequel for The Shadow Strays…
“There are two branches of Shadows film that I’m hoping I get to make .
One is the Nomi/13 saga
And another is a separate tale of the character Volver which was seen briefly in The Shadow Strays.
Hoping to make these within the next 2 years.”
Directed and written by Timo Tjahjanto, The Shadow Strays became available on Netflix last October and stars Aurora Ribero as 13, a 17-year-old highly skilled assassin. Tjahjanto has repeatedly expressed his desire to create a sequel, continuing the story of 13 in a follow-up film. He also plans to develop a prequel focusing on another character, Volver, who was portrayed by Eva Celia in the original movie.
Although Tjahjanto is keeping some details secret for now, we hope Netflix supports his vision and lets him create what has the potential to be one of the most incredible and expansive action thriller series ever made.
Timo Tjahjanto Has a Lot to Live Up to With ‘The Shadow Strays 2’

The Shadow Strays received overwhelmingly positive reviews when it came out and currently holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following a near-disaster on a mission, Codename 13 – a highly skilled but rebellious assassin – was temporarily removed from active duty. She then crosses paths with Monji, a boy grieving the loss of his mother at the hands of a criminal organization. When Monji goes missing, 13 embarks on a dangerous quest to find him, her only friend, even if it means disobeying her teacher and the powerful group she’s a part of, The Shadows.
If Tjahjanto gets the opportunity to direct The Shadow Strays 2 and its planned spin-off, he has a high bar to meet. However, the director is smartly looking to classic films for ideas. He previously stated, “I’m nearly done with the story outline for 13 / Nomi’s next adventure. I’m drawing a lot of inspiration from The Godfather 2.”
Timo Tjahjanto is now working in Hollywood, having recently directed the action-packed sequel Nobody 2. He’s teaming up next with action star Jason Statham for The Beekeeper 2, a film expected to be a big hit when it’s released in 2026 by Amazon MGM Studios.
