And they’ve started 2026 strong with Land of Sin, which is already shaping up to be one of the year’s best.

As a huge crime thriller fan, I was really hooked by this new Swedish miniseries, Land of Sin, that dropped on Netflix on January 2nd, 2026. It’s a really gripping story – a young boy goes missing, and it unravels all the secrets of this small town where everyone protects each other. Honestly, it’s set a high bar for crime shows this year, and I have a feeling 2026 is going to be a great year for the genre!

Land of Sin Sets Up Multiple Mysteries Right from the Start

The series Land of Sin centers around Detective Dani Anttila, who is dealing with difficulties in her personal life. She gets a call from a man named Ivar, who asks her to investigate the disappearance of Silas, who has been missing for four days. Initially hesitant, Dani ultimately decides to take the case.

Okay, so just when you think you’ve got a handle on things, the movie throws a curveball. We discover Dani has a history with a boy named Silas, and it’s more complicated than it seems. He was briefly in her care through Social Services before going back to his family. But his vanishing isn’t just a runaway situation – there’s a much deeper mystery at play here.

The series Land of Sin opens with Dani lying injured on a warehouse floor, apparently after an attack. Unconscious, she’s found by a group of men who decide to take her to the woods. The story then flashes back one week to reveal the central mystery of Land of Sin.

From the beginning, Land of Sin introduces a cast of unusual and captivating characters. When Dani starts looking into Silas’s disappearance, the residents of his town react to her with suspicion and hostility. The police, and especially Dani – who was involved in taking Silas away – aren’t welcome in the area where his family lives.

Ivar, Silas’s father, is in the hospital and doesn’t have much time left, but he still asks Dani to help locate his son. The search for the missing teenager quickly takes a dark turn when Silas’s body is discovered in the river, indicating he was murdered. The case is now a homicide investigation.

As Dani investigates Silas, others connected to him start dying, suggesting a far bigger and more complex mystery than she initially thought. However, the townspeople aren’t helping, and Dani faces strong opposition – both to the police in general and to her personally – as she tries to solve the case.

Land of Sin Sets the Tone for Upcoming Crime Thrillers in 2026

I’m really enjoying “Land of Sin” – it’s getting great reviews with an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes! And if you’re like me and love a good mystery, Netflix has a ton of new crime miniseries coming out in 2026 that I’m already excited about. One I’m especially looking forward to is scheduled to premiere on January 15th, 2026.

Wow, I was hooked on Land of Sin almost immediately! It dropped right at the beginning of the year and honestly, I think it’s already raised the bar for crime thrillers in 2026. From the very first episode, it’s packed with mysteries and has this really dark, gritty feel. Plus, the main character is seriously complex – you can tell she’s dealing with a lot.

Dani Anttila is juggling a difficult investigation into Silas’s disappearance with personal struggles. She’s still deeply affected by happier memories of both Silas and her son, who is now battling drug addiction. Despite Dani’s efforts to get him help, including encouraging him to enter rehab, he continues to struggle.

Land of Sin includes flashbacks to when Silas was under Dani’s care, showing the relationship between Silas and Dani’s son, Oliver. This crime thriller features complicated, imperfect characters striving to make good choices, making it a captivating read to kick off the new year.
