Netflix’s Disaster Limited Series La Palma Officially Gets Season 2 Renewal Florida

I’ve been so impressed with how many fantastic limited series this streaming service has created, and it’s amazing to see some of them get the chance to become full-fledged shows! I was completely hooked by their 2024 disaster series, La Palma, and I’m thrilled they just announced they’re continuing the story with a sequel!

Netflix is creating a follow-up to the popular Norwegian series La Palma, currently titled Florida. This new series will be a completely separate story, not a continuation of the original. La Palma attracted 70.3 million views within its first 91 days, and Netflix announced the sequel at the Nordic Media Days event in Bergen. Florida is scheduled to be released in 2027.

What Happens in Florida?

The new series, Florida, begins immediately after the volcanic eruption on La Palma. It follows a Norwegian community in Florida who haven’t yet realized a massive tsunami is heading their way. The series will have four episodes.

If you enjoyed the disaster thrillers La Palma and The Quake, you’ll be happy to hear the same team is back for Season 2! It’s being produced by Fantefilm – they’re the folks who brought us those intense “Scandisaster” films. This time around, Cecilie Mosli, who you might recognize from The Snowsister or even Grey’s Anatomy, is directing. And the script? That’s from Lars Gudmestad, the writer behind both La Palma and The Burning Sea. So, expect more high-stakes action!

Gudmestad said that making ‘Florida’ has been a long-held dream, and she’s thrilled Netflix shares her vision. The goal is to create a compelling disaster series with relatable and engaging characters, and she’s confident that director Cecilie’s talent and experience will help them achieve that.

Mosli believes that stories about people facing crises make for the most compelling dramas. The success of La Palma, created by Lars Gudmestad, Fantefilm, and Netflix, showed how powerfully large-scale disasters can be combined with personal, human stories. He expressed his excitement about being involved in their new project, Florida.
