Netflix Says Goodbye to the Greatest Cyberpunk TV Show of the 21st Century

A popular cyberpunk series is leaving Netflix soon. It will no longer be available on the streaming service starting early next year.

Netflix announced that the show Mr. Robot will no longer be available on its platform starting January 3, 2026. The series follows Elliot, a cybersecurity engineer who also works as a hacker. He’s recruited by a shadowy anarchist called Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) and becomes involved with a group of hacktivists called “fsociety.” Together, they embark on a dangerous mission to erase massive amounts of debt by targeting the world’s largest financial institutions.

From 2015 to 2019, Mr. Robot was a popular show on USA Network, quickly earning a reputation as one of the best cyberpunk series of recent times. It stood out for its realistic depiction of technology and thoughtful examination of social issues. The show was also groundbreaking in how it portrayed Elliot’s struggles with social anxiety, depression, and a dissociative identity disorder, adding significant depth to what was already a compelling techno-thriller.

While many cyberpunk shows create far-off, high-tech worlds, Mr. Robot felt strikingly real and unsettling because it was set in the present day. The show skillfully blended classic cyberpunk themes with a modern story, immediately captivating viewers.

Critics and viewers alike consistently praised Mr. Robot throughout its entire run. Remarkably, all four seasons earned a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the first season still boasts the highest approval rating at 98%. Overall, critics gave the show an average score of 94%, while audiences averaged a very high 93%.

As a total movie and TV buff, I’ve heard a lot about Mr. Robot, and the first season is consistently called a really gripping cyber-thriller – super relevant to what’s going on in the world, and with a premise that really makes you think. What I especially love is that it stayed good all the way through! Rotten Tomatoes says the final season is a solid conclusion, which is a huge relief. It means you can start watching now without worrying about a frustrating or unfinished ending – that’s always a win in my book.

Mr. Robot Earned Multiple Prestigious Awards During Its Original Run

Beyond strong online reviews, Mr. Robot became a fan favorite and earned significant recognition in Hollywood. The show received two Golden Globe Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Peabody Award. In 2016, it also excelled at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, winning Best Drama Series, with Rami Malek and Christian Slater winning Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
