Netflix Might Not Get DC After Paramount’s Latest Takeover Move

Paramount has revised its offer to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, adding a new commitment from Larry Ellison in an attempt to secure the deal.

What is Paramount’s latest takeover move to get Warner Bros. and DC?

Just recently, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that Netflix will be acquiring Warner Bros. in a deal valued at around $82.7 billion. This means Netflix will now own the Warner Bros. film and TV studios, along with HBO and HBO Max.

If the acquisition goes through, Netflix would own popular franchises like DC Comics, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Dune, and The Lord of the Rings. Netflix also confirmed it will continue to release Warner Bros. movies in theaters, including upcoming DC films like Supergirl (2026) and Man of Tomorrow (2027).

Paramount Skydance isn’t giving up on its attempt to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. On Monday, they revised their offer to try and resolve Warner Bros. Discovery’s objections. The offer still values the company at $108 billion, or $30 per share, including all of Warner Bros. Discovery’s debts and assets.

Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle and a major shareholder in Paramount, has personally guaranteed $40.4 billion to support the company’s financing and cover any potential legal claims. His son, David Ellison, is now the CEO of the newly combined Paramount Skydance.

Paramount strengthened its deal by raising the breakup fee to $5.8 billion (up from $5 billion) and giving the other party more time – until January 21, 2026 – to accept the offer.

David Ellison stated that Paramount has consistently shown its desire to buy Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD). He highlighted their offer of $30 per share – a complete cash deal made on December 4th – as the best way to benefit WBD’s investors. Ellison urged the WBD board to move forward with the deal, believing it will protect and improve a valuable piece of Hollywood history for years to come.
