Netflix launched its large-scale series, based on the popular Chinese novel Remembrance of Earth’s Past, in 2024. The show was created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, known for Game of Thrones, and Alexander Woo, from True Blood. Unfortunately, after two years, the series has recently received disappointing news.
Netflix’s 3 Body Problem quickly became popular with viewers, leading the platform to renew the show for two additional seasons to complete the story. However, according to What’s on Netflix, the second season will be shorter, with only six episodes.
3 Body Problem Might Solve the Release Problem
The first season of the show premiered on March 21, 2024, and had eight episodes. While there were rumors that seasons two and three would be filmed consecutively, production on season two has now finished. According to a source on set, season two only included six episodes, which suggests that season three may be even briefer.
Although Netflix hasn’t confirmed it yet, sources say the next two seasons will have a total of 11 episodes. This would make Season 3 the shortest, with only five episodes.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting news about 3 Body Problem, and while Season 2 will still take time, continued production through 2027 means the story will reach its conclusion sooner, and the actors will be able to continue their roles without interruption.
The show is very expensive to produce, with each episode of the first season costing around $20 million. Because of this high cost, Netflix may need to prioritize making a great show over producing a large number of episodes, which could present some challenges.
Season 2 of 3 Body Problem won’t be released until sometime next year, as Netflix hasn’t scheduled it for 2026. However, because they’ve already started filming Season 3, we might not have to wait as long for it.
3 Body Problems Will Have a ‘Wild’ Season 2
This science fiction series tells the story of humanity’s very first encounter with extraterrestrial life. It centers on Ye Wenjie, a Chinese astrophysicist, who faces hardship after witnessing a traumatic event during China’s Cultural Revolution. Her work at a top-secret military installation ultimately leads to a decision with enormous consequences for the future of humankind.
The story unfolds across two time periods – historical China and modern London – as humanity grapples with a potential extinction-level event caused by contact with aliens.
I was so excited even before Season 2 began filming, the creators hinted at something really special! David Weiss described it as a gentle introduction to the story that quickly becomes incredibly exciting. He mentioned they’ve been working hard, especially recently, to map out all the twists and turns – figuring out how to make this wild ride the best it can be. It sounds like they’re really putting a lot of thought into everything!
3 Body Problem Season 2 doesn’t have a release date.
