After four episodes of NCIS: Sydney Season 3, Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson (Mavournee Hazel) hasn’t rejoined the team, and the show needs to stop sidelining its most compelling character. Though officially on leave, Blue is still secretly helping with investigations, as shown in the episode “The Truth Is Outback.” In Episode 4, Michelle Mackey’s (Olivia Swann) team investigates Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and, predictably, Blue provides the crucial intelligence they require.
Despite Bluebird’s absence, the entire Mackey team is back together. Jim Dempsey, Dr. Roy Penrose, Evie Cooper, and DeShawn Jackson will all return for another season in the Outback. The show still needs to address what’s next for Blue, who became a valuable source of information for the team in Season 1 and earned a regular position. However, an episode in Season 3 revealed more about her past, making her return to NCIS Sydney more complicated.
Bluebird Gleeson Still Hasn’t Rejoined AFP/NCIS Sydney’s Task Force In Season 3 Episode 4
In Season 3, Episode 4 of NCIS: Sydney, Blue is still missing from the AFP/NCIS task force. The team is continuing to work with Travis “Trigger” Riggs (Claude Jabbour), who filled the position left by Gleeson. Blue left NCIS Sydney at the start of the season, submitting her resignation via video. But after discovering her departure was part of a larger, malicious plan orchestrated by someone from her past – a person named Aspira (Doris Younane) – there was a suggestion she might return.
Bluebird returns to help her team in episodes 3 and 4, secretly giving information to Trigger who then passes it on. Her appearance in episode 3 felt natural, as she was already at NCIS Sydney applying for a job as a forensic scientist, allowing her to subtly investigate things. However, her presence in the most recent episode feels forced and highlights how slowly the show is bringing her back into the story.
Blue has returned to Headquarters in “The Truth Is Outback.” When Mackey asks Trigger for help with the case, Trigger suggests it’s not his place to handle it, but Gleeson offers to step in. Mackey worries about Blue operating secretly, but Gleeson persuades him, jokingly comparing herself to a comforting support system. It’s good to have Blue back with the team, though the story doesn’t fully explain why she’s working off the books, and her involvement feels a little far-fetched by Episode 4.
Bluebird’s Career-Threatening AFP Background Check Blunder Explained
I’m really frustrated that Blue isn’t back with the team yet, and it all comes down to her having to reapply for her old job. After she disappeared, Doc got suspicious and we started looking into her past, specifically an old case from NCIS: Sydney. What Mackey and JD found out was shocking! It turns out ‘Bluebird’ isn’t her real name – she’s actually Faith Mullins, and she’s a convicted felon. Even worse, she faked all her IDs and paperwork to get into law enforcement in the first place. It’s a huge problem, and that’s why she has to start the application process all over again.
In the final moments of “True Blue,” Mackey and Jim Dempsey discuss whether to reinstate Blue after her mistakes. Michelle, a former Navy helicopter pilot who shares some similarities with Blue, has also made errors in the past. However, Mackey couldn’t ignore Gleeson’s dishonesty and required her to formally reapply for her position, emphasizing the need for honesty. As of Episode 4, Bluebird is still waiting to hear if her reapplication was successful.
What Will Happen With Blue Gleeson’s Story In NCIS: Sydney Season 3?
The NCIS universe often starts seasons by suggesting a major character is leaving, but these departures aren’t always permanent. Many times, a character will leave the team only to return a few episodes later, creating temporary drama. It initially seemed like NCIS: Sydney was using this same trick with the Bluebird storyline. But after four episodes with no sign of her return, fans are starting to question if she’ll ever come back.
I’ve been following Bluebird’s story closely, and it’s got me wondering about what’s really going on. Is everything happening with her character just a clever way to bring Gleeson back into the mix, or could it be setting up Mavournee Hazel’s exit from the show? The new trailer for NCIS: Sydney Season 3 briefly shows the cast, and Hazel isn’t in that quick shot – it almost looks like an official cast photo without her. But thankfully, the opening credits still include her, and we even see some new footage of her as the forensic scientist! So, I’m really hoping that means Blue will be rejoining Mackey’s team before too long.
